November 2025 Challenge
Learning From Difficult Client Situations

Lantana grows best in sunlight and has many different color possibilities. Over 150 varieties exist.

Clients are like the Lantana plant in many ways. Although color varieties of Lantana may vary widely, the commonality is that each flower contains florets of different colors. These variations mimic the different behaviors in various stages of the process to meet the needs of the Clients.

If each color represents aspects of the process, we know that the beginning steps - meeting the potential Clients, getting to know one another and then Client selecting us - are one. Another color would be the search and research aspects for the ideal dwelling. Yet another color would represent the detail-conscious focus on documents, inspections and financing.

Each color defines a different step and all colors are needed to define the whole.

After a LONG ENGAGEMENT with one family, the Closing occured this month. The number of 'back and forth', 'yes and no' and 'change orders' over the years is almost incalculable.

In this case, the Buyers wanted a home I renovated from a three-bedroom/one bath to a five-bedroom/three and a half bath home. The original 1800 sq. ft. ended up about 3000 sq. ft. with the additional bedrooms and Laundry Room plus the new Kitchen/Great Room and Master BR Suite.

Wanting to cut costs, the Buyers suggested omiting the skylights and I drew a line in the sand there. I knew that the skylights would be the signature detail for the home. I insisted on a skylight in the Kitchen, two in the Great Room, one in the Laundry Room and one in each of the four baths.

After Closing, all of the steps led up to a heartfelt message of gratitude - the text that makes it all worthwhile.

"Thank you so much for your house. We are enjoying sunlight from inside of the house. I was thinking that I need to turn off the lights but then realized, it is sunlight. Please visit us anytime you like."

Now the journey with these Clients has ended.
The difficulties recede into memory.
The joy of a vision accomplished remains.

Hello Lynn - in real estate, contacts can become connections. Similar to tending one's garden or similar to a meaningful plot in a story, these types of things can grow through attention and consistent dedication.  Of course, knowledge as well as other factors go into the process as growth can be result.  Difficulty encountered along the way can test the tender - sometimes strength occurs and thrives.

Your phrase Similar to tending is very cogent. In fact, the skilled real estate professional "tends" the process all the way through!
Take care - Lynn

Lynn B. Friedman CRS Atlanta, GA 404-617-6375 - Lantana is also a native plant in Texas. Your analogy closely resembles the similarities between the Lantana and the clients. It is a well-respected Broker or Real Estate Agent that helps the clients see the forest through the trees. Sometimes, it is hard to draw the line in the sand. When clients come to realize, you were right, right along, it becomes known, that a good relationship is built on trust.

The Lantana bloom hold a spectrum of florets of different colors, different stages, all part of one vibrant whole. The first color is the meeting, connection, listening, understanding, and the beginning of trust.

The second stage begins the searching, new ideas, decision-making, dreaming of that perfect - place to finally call home!

The third stage may include doubt, disagreements, documents, reality, inspections, the cost, financing, and all that it entails to become the whole picture.

The final reward is seeing how it all comes together because every stage, detail, and necessary detail was all for the best interest for the clients.
