Hardest Substance on Earth...Diamonds?? Nope

By
Real Estate Technology with http://www.medicalandspaconsulting.com

For many years, we have been told that diamond is the hardest substance on earth. They MAY still be a "girl's best friend" (LoL).  I have known for many years that this is untrue. Diamonds are actually (officially) number 7!!  I say diamnods are number 8.

The actual fact is that the hardest substance on earth is graphene. I utilize graphene in many science functions - including a cooling catalyst. Graphene is actually as small as a single atom thick. It is a hexagonal carbon matrix and it is utilized in armor, lubrication and basically, to make things lighter and stronger.

However, today I discovered something even stronger than graphene.

The coffee bean. These fascinating freaks of nature are tasty and resilient.  Every day when I make that first, fresh cup of heaven, I am astounded that a ground coffee bean survives minutes of boiling water and they do not melt or distinegrate.  Every day the grinds go into the recycle jar.

How do they survive such heat!!!

You would think it would be diamonds, but I don’t mind coffee beans either. Love and light and all the best!

I wonder, do coffee grounds ever totally disintegrate?

Paddy Deighan MBA JD PhD - Interesting! I always believed Diamonds were the hardest substance on earth. Speaking of recycling, what are the odds coffee beans will one day be mounted on rings and sold as wedding rings in lieu of diamonds?

That might be, Paddy... but I'll stick with diamonds--my birthstone and my favorite gem! :)))

Good morning Paddy. The coffee bean gets ground up, boiled in water and provides a delicious liquid for consumption and survives the ordeal. Diamonds may be a girl's best friend but I need my morning brew. Enjoy your day.

Hello Paddy - I admit that I didn't immediately the word graphene but was familiar with graphite.  A quick online investigation led to my first "ah ha" moment of the day.  Thank you for helping me with another successful rabbit hole search.  🐰🥕🧠

Now Paddy Deighan MBA JD PhD I would have thought the hardest substance on earth was the thick heads of those who voted for the soon to be Mayor of NYC.

You know what - I'd take coffee beans over diamonds at my stage!  In fact I've got a lovely cup of java sitting on my desk.  Oh is smells so good.  As for the beans.......too funny!

I seem to recall projections of building an elevator into space using graphene cables or carbon nanotubes. If memory serves (and I could be wrong here), scientists couldn't figure out how to build stable long strands of cable, let alone the extreme lengths that would be needed to stretch beyond our atmosphere- so until we do, no space elevators for us.
