Questions When It Might Be The Right House
One of my favorite moments in real estate is when a buyer walks through a home and, without even knowing it, begins to 'move in'. You can see it in their faces. Their eyes soften, the conversation changes, and suddenly, they’re not “touring a property” anymore; they’re imagining their life there.
That’s the time to listen carefully. And that’s when the right questions make all the difference. You need to really know your buyers to ask many of these questions that help them picture their world in these new rooms they’re visiting.
I’ve been asking these questions for years, and buyers answer them without hesitation, because the answers are really about their dreams, not the house.

Here are a few examples that always open the door to possibility:
Where will the big-screen TV go?
Would your vegetable garden grow better on the side or in the back?
Which room will make the perfect office?
Is the 100-gallon aquarium happier in the family room or the lower level?
Kids, have you picked out your room yet?

Would you like the laundry upstairs or down?
Gas cooking or electric—what’s your preference?
How long is your commute from here to work, school, or the hospital?
Will you be using the light rail to get to BWI?
Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Giant, Whole Foods—what’s your grocery stop?
Where will your mother’s antique desk look best?
Does the grand piano prefer that sunny corner?
Which side of the garage is yours?
Want me to check where the school bus picks up?
Shall we bring in a contractor to get quotes for granite countertops?
So you like that chandelier? Let me see if I can get it for you.
And when you have your Fourth of July cookout, patio, or poolside?
Buyers don’t always tell you when a house feels like home… but they show you. And when they naturally start thinking about how they’ll live in a space, your questions help them get clearer, more confident, and more excited.

By asking the right questions, you’re not just selling a house; you’re helping them envision their future.
So… when you show the right home, what are your buying questions?
