Should it be business as usual? It depends. Is what you are doing working for you? If not, make some adjustments and march forward.

Jesus -  if we're feeling the crunch of the economy then so is our client.  To me that means all the more reason to provide closing/housewarming gifts.   I've switched mine up a bit over the past little while.  Yesterday I dropped off a plant with a card attached.  In the envelope I enclosed a $100 bill saying "Pizza and Beer is on me for moving day".  And then I also enclosed a Gift Voucher to a local steak house and a note that read 'when the unpacking is complete, enjoy a relaxing night out on me!"    The kids were ecstatic . . .  this was their first home and money is going to be tight for awhile.

I have 2 more closings this week and these clients are going to receive $100 gas cards instead of pizza money because they both purchased rural properties.  They will both get the Steak House voucher as well.

When times are tuff, we have to understand that they're tuff for everyone!  I look forward to reading more

Jesus - I agree with those above who say not to eliminate the gift.  In fact it is probably more important now.

Susan- I really like your gift ideas.  They are both creative and meaningful.

The best gifs doesn't cost money. .care for them as your children. . visit with them, make sure that they know at all times that they should call you if they want to refinance or just want to learn the value of their home.

Definately keep giving gifts.. but now just be more creative in your gift giving... When one of my loans close.. Instead of a money order or basket of flowers   I give them a book that could be beneficial.. I usually give them  "Stop Sitting on your Assets"   is is financially educational, and some of the ideas have them coming back to me to implement..  I can get the book for around $ 15.00, but the info if they ready it could be worth much much more.
