JOURNALING: NOVEMBER 20, 2025

There is something about Thursday that always gives me reason to pause about why I am thankful. I continue to stay engaged in education and learning something new. Reflecting back, my Bachelor's Degree in Applied Behavioral Science and Arts in Evanston, Illinois had a profound effect on me. My focus was on transformation and resilience --- becoming stronger through change. My studies revolved around learning how to build resilience through life transitions, challenges, and changes.

Once again, I am going through a lot of personal changes. What I am learning is resilience is not resistance; it is the ability to recover and rebuild. They say, you have to get outside of your comfort zone in order to grow. I now recognize growth often hides behind discomfort, pain, confusion, and sorrow.

Once again, I'm going through changes. Change is frequently least expected. Factors may include financial changes, health, environmental shifts, the economy, the constant evolution of technology, housing markets, inflation, and changes outside of our control. We are all living through so many changes. Perhaps some may be planning for retirement.  Making the right decisions about our future involves making strategic goals that have a direct impact on us. With so many unknowns, there are many days for reflection. Change doesn't mean it's personal.
I'm reflecting back on lessons I learned years ago to make life more positive. I'm in the process of making improvements by continuing to keep moving forward. Transformation doesn't get easier; it begins when you choose to grow when things are hardest. I should be more thankful for the hard times. I hope you're all doing well!

Great post, Patricia Feager!  I had some similar moments this year that broke me out of old ways and into new territory.  Change is scary, but when you get through it, you sit back and say, 'Why didn't I do that earlier?'.  Life is funny like that.

Patricia I retired from doing mortgages about 2 years ago now.  It was a change I was not certain how it would go.  But I made a couple of modification, and so far it is proving to be a good change.

I remember once reading that if we weren't growing, we were dying. Change can be very positive, as long as we have a good attitude. The glass is always half full and can be completely filled with new experiences.

Lise Howe - Thank you. You're a very special lady. I appreciated your comment very much.

Lynnea Miller - What you read was very interesting. A few days ago, I read that if you didn't get out of bed, your legs would start to die soon. Both of those thoughts are scary and a wake-up call!

George Souto - Making change can bring about anxiety. Making adjustment creates rewards. You did it!

Kelly McGovern - I think we all have triggers that pulls us in one way or another. Staying strong and meeting whatever is scary head on takes courage.

Hi Patricia,
Not everyone subscribes to the philosophy of life-long learning. You and I do. If we're not learning and changing, we're not just standing still; we are going backwards.

Change truly is the only constant in life, whether we want it or not.

Carol Williams - it is true, not everyone subscribes to the philosophy of life-long learning. We all experience life changes differently. And of course, there are many different perspectives about the word change.

We can change the way we do things, remembering to do the right things, or better yet, doing things right. Some may believe in doing the right things better or doing away with things all together. Then there are people who are motivated to change based on what other people are doing - for example, doing things nobody else is doing.

Whatever we decide that we believe is right for us, is most likely the right choice and a good reason to change.

Life can certainly be challenging, and how we decide to move forward (or not) will impact how challenges are overcome (or not)! You are a strong lady - recovering and rebuilding are two things you do well!

Kat Palmiotti - Your comment touched my soul. My eyes are misty. I felt warmth through my veins.

As you know, an ending isn't really an end. It is a new beginning. Change begins when you have the courage to let go. That's when the impossible, is most likely to occur. Building new construction or rebuilding isn't just about bricks and mortar, it's also about reevaluating and implementation for what comes next. Standing tall, not small during the reconstruction process does take strength. Learning, transformation, resilience, and facing even more challenges makes us who we are and encourages us to keep going.

Thank you. Your understanding support is greatly appreciated.

Good morning, Patricia... change certainly does lead to growth in our lives. But I'll admit that there are days I would love to see less change.

Nina Hollander, Broker - I understand. That's your prerogative. When it comes to the United States and Global news, more positive news would be something to celebrate. If change is about health and personal needs, well, that's a different type of challenge that no one that I know of embraces with open arms. If change leads to personal growth, better health for us and our family members, and it makes us happy, then that is all that really matters.

Brian England - there was an old movie and popular song, before you were born and the lyrics began with "Que Sera, Sera," which means "Whatever will be, will be."

Happy Thursday.

I have heard that song Patricia Feager even though it came out before I was born, haha.

Brian England - The movie and the song came out before my children were born too. They remember the song because I sang it to them all the time. They still remember the song and sing it too.

Top of the morning Patricia.  As you step thru this recent 'change door' I am trusting all will be better on the other side.  m

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho - I read your comment and had a deja vu moment! When I was a kid, most of my days were going down Chicago Avenue with my mom and siblings, or later on with my friend named Pat. One day she was going through the Revolving Door at Goldblats, and it never stopped revolving. I heard her screaming inside for HELP!

That's what I was reminded of many times in my real estate business. And then, when the revolving door stopped, we used the original door. The original door was such a heavy door to pull, close, and pass through - until I said STOP!

The "Change Door," means many different things to many different people!

Hello Patricia - the comment from Lynnea Miller brought back a memory I heard when I was young.  Rebuilding like building continues in multiple ways throughout life.

Michael Jacobs - I really appreciated Lynnea Miller's comment, yours, and everyone else who left comments.

When I worked at Abbott Labs in Texas, the new HR Director (from the UK) started out his new position in the USA by calling a meeting and telling us all we were about to get off our Island because of Cultural Changes, and he was selected to rebuild the organization.

While he was there, I learned something new every single day. His insights caused a ripple effect with many changes. There were major discoveries daily about who was being let go, who was being transferred, and how we had to cut costs and our budgets.

One or two words like change and/or rebuilding can bring back so many memories!

Lew Corcoran - I really do believe many of us on ActiveRain are here for a reason. We all serve a purpose, created to help one another. Sometimes, all it takes is a kind word. And then there are times we are shocked when we learn about bad/sad news.

Most of us really are doing the best we can.

Thank you, Lew.
