Years ago, for my birthday present I wanted to have our house colors chosen by a famous San Francisco painted lady colorist. Bob Buckter (aka: Dr. Color) was my #1 choice and perhaps the most famous. Fortunately for me Bob has an online program for people who do not live near San Francisco. All projects are unique. No other house he is commissioned to do has this same group of colors.
It starts with pictures you take of the house and a form you fill out. Do you want the base color of the house to be darker and the trim lighter or house lighter and trim darker? What colors do you particularly like? How do you feel about porch railing colors? And another very important issue what colors are the house and are near you. This is especially important if you have a house right next to you.
Surprisingly because we liked both blue and green we got two colorways (that is what the collection of colors is called.) We obviously choose the blue one, but the green one is lovely too and available to any potential buyer.
The colorway for our home is: Blue colorway for 150 Ocean Avenue

The colors are – Benjamin Moore -- Pilgrim Haze for the house, Sailcloth for the trim. Other colors for highlighting the architectural elements are: Black Pepper, Kendall Charcoal, and New London Burgundy. In addition, a Custom Blue was chosen with a provided formula.
Just received an announcement of Bob’s new book: Bob Buckter Architectural Color Design, I am sure it is very informative.

About the book:
This is a lovingly crafted and lavishly illustrated celebration one of San Francisco's most influential artisans: Bob Buckter, known to all as “Dr. Color.” Since 1970, Bob Buckter has been consulting on colors, transforming tens of thousands of buildings across San Francisco and beyond, while helping define how the world sees the city and its “painted ladies.” Bob Buckter: Architectural Color Design is a career retrospective featuring over 120 of Bob's projects across the last half-century. Written by local historian Ben Zotto and profusely illustrated with photographs taken or curated by Anson Moran, Bob Buckter: Architectural Color Design also includes Bob's unbelievable biography, historical background on San Francisco's Victorian buildings, and profiles of two of Bob's closest collaborators. A bonus essay by Dr. Color himself explains his thought process for color selection and is useful to anyone thinking about their own paint colors—or curious about how a half century of color design principles could inform other disciplines.
