Services for Real Estate Pros with Nebraska's #1 Notary Services

I have been thinking alot about the real estate market and my notary signing agent business. I know many people in my area that have gotten out of it and had to get different jobs. I have turned down many signings in the past week because they only want to pay me $75 which included e-docs. Why is it the signing agent has to reap the loss as the prices of gas, paper, etc. increase. We are one of the most important parts to the loan; as we are the last contact they have before the loan actually happens.  We do all the printing, driving, etc. and we are now being asked to cut our cost by $50. My time is more precious than that.

I took time to figure out my wage if I took the job 27 miles from my home for a standard refinance; including all my fees, mileage, and time. I would make less than $12 per hour. How is that fair! I just wish all the other notaries out there agreed with me and we all charged the same! Then, The mortgage companies, title companies, and signing companies would have to pay a certain fee or they couldn't find a notary to do the job.

I can guarantee when you take a job for a lesser amount, you can see on the HUD the signing company or title company isn't taking a hit! It just chaps my hide to hear the same sob story from these companies that are trying to hire me that they can't pay my fee.....

Well, I guess I won't work for them! Or, when they can't find anyone they will call me back. Especially when they realize how good I am!!!

Have you thought about earning extra income in a field that mirrors what you are doing now?? Also next time an agent needs a signing and you are the only one they can get at the last minute.. tell them..  "No problem,  my fee is $ 150.00

Hey Michele,

I too have been declining jobs because of the principle you mentioned.  It is imperative that Notaries and our customers value the role that we play in the final stages of closing a loan.  The bottom line always should be fair for the services rendered and we should be the one who determines that, not the other way around.  Paper, Gas, Vehicle Wear & Tear, Ink, Computer & Printer maintenance, Professional Representation, and the list goes on should be recognized.  Great post!

Hi Michele!10ba313.gif

You can probably guess where I fall on this subject...YES, you have to stick to your guns...none of us can afford to lower our pricing when gas is fast approaching $5/gal.

Hang in there kid!!

Getting through to new NSA's is hard, they think $75 is a lot, but they do not figure all expenses to maintain advertising, paper, gas, etc.  They do not take the whole picture in, and I don't have the answer about this one - wish I did!!  We do need to start with the NNA though, they promote that being an acceptable starting price, and they have taken flack for that, but continue to ignore this issue.

I am 100% in agreement.    I took a job for $90 because i hadn't wrked for a while.   What a loss that turned out to be.   It was 40 miles from home.  It was also through a SS.  I returned all the docs to the escrow company.  The SS called and said that I only returned half the package.  I agreed to return (even though I knew I had returned all docs, checked my email).   They then decided that on one of the pages the client had written a word and it was unacceptable.  I returned for a 3rd time.  Good relations right?   Next day they found something else that was wrong.  Now I refused to make a 4th trip.   It had already cost me double the $90 in costs.  Then to top it off, they never paid me.

Unfortunately the companies offer the amounts they do because they usually find someone to take it.

I don't think that will change anytime soon given the economic climate of today.
