My choice is Fun Fact #19 | Dugway Proving Ground
Two reasons for this choice.
- I like the name Proving Ground
- It is where Miss Wanda met her husband!

In full transparency, someone went down a Grok rabbit hole in creating images. There is no fault or blame here, Kathy Streib and yes, I confess, I did have FUN!

Proving It In Utah
Dugway Proving Ground is a United States Army facility located in the remote desert region of northwestern Utah, approximately 85 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
The Early History of the Dugway Proving Ground
At the height of World War II, Dugway Proving Ground was established in 1942. The United States Army sought a secure and isolated location where it could conduct large-scale tests of chemical and biological weapons, as well as protective equipment and decontamination procedures. The vast desert landscape of Utah, with its low population density and natural barriers, made Dugway an ideal choice.
Role During World War II and the Cold War
Dugway's primary mission during World War II centered on testing chemical agents and munitions to ensure the effectiveness and safety of U.S. forces. After the war, its mission expanded to include the testing of biological weapons and the development of countermeasures. Throughout the Cold War, Dugway became a center for research and evaluation of both offensive and defensive capabilities, adapting to the changing nature of global threats and military technology.
Operations Today
Dugway Proving Ground remains a vital asset to the Department of War. The installation encompasses over 1,200 square miles, making it one of the largest military facilities in the United States. Dugway conducts a variety of tests, including chemical and biological defense systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors, and equipment designed to detect and neutralize weapons of mass destruction. Its isolated environment allows for realistic and large-scale testing that would be impossible in more populated areas.
