Grateful for Technology

This is my 4th and last post for November's challenge.   Thanks Lynn B. Friedman CRS Atlanta, GA 404-617-6375 for hosting this month's challenge.

I started in this crazy career 30 years ago, when we carried around LOTS of quarters to stop at phone booths,  and had MLS books that were already out of date when they were delivered.   Our buyers saw homes WE chose for them with their specific parameters, and we took our chances.  And remember writing contracts on the hood of my car!

Cell phones sure helped us, and saved us some quarters, but those first cell phone bills were out of control!   MLS is now online, and our clients (for the most part) choose the homes they want to see.   Writing contracts got LOTS better when they became digital, and now our clients can be halfway around the world, and still sign a contract!   WOO HOO!

AI can enhance our descriptions in MLS for our new listings, and also can create some nice photos for our blogs and social media posts.    I remember paying for a service to obtain photos without the chance of copyright infringement issues!

These days I rely on my RING doorbell, Nest thermostat, which I can access on my phone.   Also have a Ring camera inside so I can watch to see what those furbabies are getting into!    Earlier this year, I bought a Samsung stove, that is a SMART one!   I can turn it on, and change the clock on my phone.  The app is called SMART THINGS.

Recently my Fitbit has been not working (on a regular basis), so I decided to look around to see what else there was.   I bought a VeryFit phone, and actually was a 1/3 of the Fitbit cost, and has double the amount of information on it.

Couldn't live without my Aftershokz headset.    The headset is bone connection, so the headset does not cover your ears.  It is meant for runners or bikers, so they can hear the traffic.    Although when I get in the car, my Bluetooth and my headset kind of fit with each other to see which one gets to work in the car!   LOL

Sometimes technology can make our job more intense, but in many ways, it sure does make it easier, I think.

Good morning Joan. I am slow to embrace technology but making headway. Also glad to be retired so I don't have to jump in fully. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Joan... how well I remember running around the streets of NY City with quarters in my pockets. No memories of MLS books for me... we had no MLS in NY City and by the time I arrived in Charlotte the books were being phased out. And I've never written an offer on the hood of a car... in NY City attorneys prepared those contracts.

Good morning Joan,

Technology you love it and sometimes hate it when suddenly it stops working! I have lots of beautiful watches but love my Apple Watch because it counts my steps and monitors my heart! I also love my iPhone with all it does..I remember the days of carrying quarters around to stop and make a call!

You are right Dorie Dillard Austin TX there are days I hate technology when it stops working.  And, usually, it is more than one thing when something stops working.

It is funny how things change. When I first got into real estate I devoured every bit of tech I could find. I use it everyday. Now, some of it has simply passed me by...more effort than benefit I guess.

Hello Joan - I remember starting in the real estate industry.  Not sure if today's new-to-the-industry agents would even recognize the way business was practiced then.

Technology is a wonderful change for all. My first portable phone occupied almost half of my briefcase. I had to get one with expandable sides for it.

Things certainly have changed! I don't have all the toys you have - I don't need them since I work at home and there's no cell service here. Guess I can get a phone and hook it to my Starlink, but haven't done it yet.

Meanwhile - I loved the trip down memory lane. I too have written purchase agreements on the hood of a car! I also well remember the MLS books that were out of date by the time we got them. We had to drive 30 miles to pick them up, so all the agencies in town cooperated - with one agent doing the MLS run on a rotating basis. Do you remember that we weren't supposed to let anyone look in those books? Or was that just a local MLS thing?

We didn't carry money for phones because by the time we got near a pay phone, we were near the office and a phone on a desk.
