Uber and Joby Aviation have partnered and have created air taxis.
You will be able to book an air taxi through the Uber app, and the system will include a ground "Uber" ride to a vertiport, where you will then board the air taxi.
About the Aircraft - The EVTOL aircraft are designed to take off and land vertically like a helicopter and then transition to forward flight. They are intended to be quieter, safer, and more energy-efficient than traditional helicopters.
Performance - These Joby air taxis are designed to carry up to four passengers, have a range of about 100 miles, and can travel at speeds of up to 200 mph.
Timeline - Joby aims to launch commercial operations in Dubai in 2026 and plans to expand to other cities such as New York and Los Angeles, with initial rides likely to start in 2026.
Cost - The initial price is expected to be similar to an Uber Black, with a long-term goal of reducing the price to be comparable to an Uber X.
This could seriously change the way we commute, but will it be for those only with lots of extra cash?
