Zoom Assignment: Nano Banana 12-2-2025

"If working had been this much fun, I might not have retired."
-Carol Williams

This week, during the weekly Tuesday Zoom meeting, Praful Thakkar introduced us to the Nano Banana app in Gemini. Here is the link he used.  The homework assignment at the end of the meeting was to work in the app and enhance some interior or exterior photos of a house.

Here is a plain Jane picture of my house on a cloudy fall day. To the left used to be a bed of 13 roses, but I lost all but one in a freeze a few years ago. I planted three Hydrangeas in the space, but only one of them did well. Maybe they don't like full sun.

In the middle (near the house) are two blueberry bushes that are much bigger now. The right side shows my dogwood tree and 3 firebushes.  In front of the fire bushes is a bed of purple phlox, which I love in the spring, but they aren't particularly attractive the rest of the year.

I've been wanting to redo the landscaping, but haven't gotten around to it. After yesterday's Zoom session on the NanoBanana app, I thought it might be a good chance to see what options it might give me for redoing the landscaping.

I uploaded the original picture by hitting the + sign and gave NanoBanana the simple prompt: "Make the sky blue and show me a beautiful landscaping option".  I like it because it's not overdone, but if and when I redo the landscaping, I'll probably make it a bit more colorful.

Then I got to wondering what my house would look like if it were painted in patriotic red, white, and blue colors. Working from the enhanced photo, I gave it another simple prompt: Repaint the house with a patriotic theme of red, white, and blue. Enhance the landscaping to reflect the patriotic theme.

Then, for a little more fun, I gave Gemini the prompt to "Repaint the house with a Seattle Mariners color theme. Enhance the landscaping to reflect the color scheme. I forgot to ask for the Mariner logo to be put on the side of the house, so I redid it by asking it to: "Add the Seattle Mariner logo to the right side of the house". This is what I got. I see it also added a yellow door behind the privacy screen, which looks nice, but it's not something I'd do, so I would have to ask it to remove that.

Moving inside the house, I pulled up a photo I had taken of my sitting room. It was dark, so I wanted to lighten it up.

I gave Gemini the simple prompt to: "Enhance the attached photo with better lighting to brighten the room."

All in all, I was pleased with the results, and I had some fun. I will continue to use Gemini when generating AI Images.

Hi Carol... you certainly went all out, including on the banana theme. Hydrangeas do not mind full sun, by the way... mine have done well for years with full sun. Maybe it's something in the soil.

Good morning Carol. What an excellent endorsement for NanoBanana using your creative mind. Enjoy your further exploration.

Hi Wayne Martin
I sent the picture of the "Mariner themed" paint job to my sports fan friends. They thought it was cool. I tried to do one for the Seahawks but I could quite get it to do ALL of the trim in lime green. I'll have to work on that some more.

Carol, I definitely have to try this app soon. Such a difference more lighting works in that room!

Hi Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400
I know there are other photo editing apps to adjust lighting in an image, but this was fast and easy since I was already in the app.

What fun! I love trying out different designs outside of the house. That would be great to use when updating anything - we could use it to choose new paint colors for a room!

Holy Gads Miss Carol Williams - talk about over-achiever! 🤣

I sense that you were having fun with it to continue as you did.

Thank you for sharing all the prompts and photos.

Now I have to get busy with the homework as well and think about my aha moments.

Hi Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist
I wasn't really trying to be an over-achiever (although that's my natural tendency 😉), but I wanted to take a little different approach. It was fun.

Now I know what you were talking about with Nabo Banana!  I love it and what fun you had with it.  I love the new landscaping look - maybe next spring/summer you'll get a chance to get it done.  And the mariner look is great!  Gary will love it too!

Okay must find that app.  Also love the landscaping idea.  But for the love of all that is holy just go with a flag and don't paint your house to be the flag. LOL

Hi Tammy Lankford,
Lots of possible applications for this app. You could have some fun dressing up your grandsons with this app, too. 😂

Great program.  My concern is some agents will use it and potentially misrepresent the interior/exterior.  Enhanced lighting is OK  I can see it for new buyers and giving them ideas about landscaping, exterior painting, etc.

We did discus that issue during the session. There are always those who will abuse tools... but, in the end, they're only being deceptive and hurting themselves and their clients.

I learned something today. And here I thought Nano Banana had something to do with Anna "Banana" Kruchten ha!

I used an AI app last night to edit a family photo, but I haven't experimented with Nano Banana. Will give it a try! Thanks.
