There are moments in this business that stop me in my tracks and fuel my purpose.
When I checked in with a past client recently, and she answered my question if all is still going well with the house, with: "Every day, I am so thankful to live in my house. I love the community, and I love my home."
In a career that can be demanding, those words are a reminder of why I do what I do. Every late-night phone call, every careful decision, every moment spent researching... it all led to this moment of peace and joy for them. Their latest transaction (we've worked together more than once) was a particularly stressful one. Outbid a few times, they felt discouraged from still finding their forever home.
One of our roles that is often overlooked is that of a cheerleader. We remind our clients to stay the course, that we will find the right house for them. When we finally found the one, the other agent and the sellers did not make this a smooth ride. They made every attempt to corner my buyers into accepting terms lower than those we had negotiated. We had compiled a laundry list of items that needed repair after our inspection. All valid, in my professional opinion. Although the sellers signed off on the request, they then failed to follow through and tried to settle 25K worth of work with $1,800. But, I am a fierce advocate for my clients, and after many hours of going back and forth, getting our own repair estimates after the sellers presented one from a carpet cleaning company for a chimney repair (no joke!), getting the closing attorney involved, and multiple closing delays, my buyers were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief and sign the closing documents.
It was one of the toughest transactions of my 21-year-long career, but, as my client's reaction proves, every minute of the many hours I spent on it was 100% worth it.
A house becomes a backdrop for birthdays, quiet mornings, family dinners, and new traditions. Hearing that someone is thankful every day reminds me that I am not just selling property, I am helping people write their story.
"Every day, I am so thankful to live in my house." That simple sentence carries so much weight. It's not just about four walls and a roof; it's about belonging, about finding a place that feels like home. As a Realtor® and home stager, I spend countless hours helping people navigate the details, the paperwork, and the negotiations. But at the end of the day, what matters most is that feeling of gratitude my clients carry with them long after the closing table.
From Silver Spring to Elkridge (and beyond), I help buyers find and secure homes they'll love for years to come. If you want an experienced, skilled negotiator in your corner, please reach out. I am an ABR® (Accredited Buyer's Representative).
