Thankful Thursdays…For My Apps

Many have called me an apps-w____, and they would be right. I love learning about new apps and what fun, information, or help they may offer.

Today is National App DaySince my first smartphone, I’ve gone through, kept, and deleted countless apps. There are a few that I miss, but I’ve learned there will always be a new app in the pipeline.

AI apps have made their way to our smartphones. Just think, it’s 1997, and if you had a Nokia 6110, you would also have what many believe to be the first mobile app…Snake!   I had a Nokia, and it was the size of a brick.

Thank goodness (for many reasons) for Steve Jobs, who envisioned the App Store.

What were the most popular (downloaded) apps in the United States in 2024?  Temu was #1.  Here is the complete list.

What are your favorite apps???

There are many I like and use daily, such as Amazon, Facebook, and my weather apps.

Here are a few I use every day that you may like:

Life 360: is permission-based and allows you to know where your loved ones are.  (Thank you,  Sharon Tara )

AnyList: I use it as my grocery list. My niece and her husband have it synced on their phones, so if either is at the grocery store, they’ll have the list.  You can tailor it for your needs.

MyRadar: My great nephew turned me onto this. It lets you see your position on the map and the activity around you.

1SE: One Second Every Day…My cousin’s husband showed me this a few years ago. You take a photo or a short video every day and at the end of the year, they’re stitched together. It’s fun!!!!

Share any apps you love with us!!!

Kathy Streib - Your intro to this Thankful Thursday post caused me to pause and think a moment. On March 27, 1997, I moved to Texas. I had no cell phone, no maps, and definitely no apps. How I navigated in a State where I'm not from or was familiar is still a mystery.

Apps and a Cell phone would have been very helpful. I did get lost a lot!

Your post was great!

Patricia Feager oh yes. I remember when we were moving to FL to look for a home there. No cell phones so we had to stop at a lot of pay phones, and yes, ask a lot of directions.

Good morning, Kathy... honestly, I have very few apps on my phone. There is my Showing Time and Supra eKey app so I can show homes, google maps, and Facebook. I try to buy nothing via my phone, so no activated payment apps.

I am guilty of being "Married" to my phone- most used apps are my fitbit app and my Robinhood app. I love the fact I can watch my steps and my portfolio instantly.

Ellie McIntire I feel the same way about my phone. I have a fitbit on one arm and my Apple watch on the other. I love my photo editing apps as well.

I remember you shared the 1SE before and I think I downloaded it but wasn't going to use it every day so got rid of it. I'll have to check all of these out!

Kat Palmiotti   1SE prompted me to be more intent in taking pictures or short videos.  It's fun looking back too.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400    I like learning about new app. Life 360 is one I use often. When we were in FL and he was out kayaking or flying his RC places, at least I knew where he was.

My favorite apps are:
Facebook (and Messenger)

Life 360
Keep Notes
Gas Buddy
Audible

Not much of an app person. I have a couple of shopping apps including amazon, Life 360, Duolingo, couple of games, Messages, weather and probably my most used is Snapchat.

Sharon Tara we talked about Snapchat at the last Zoom call. I have it but have never used it. I may play around with it.

Kathy Streib My family doesn't use Marco Polo much anymore...we use Snapchat daily now. Most communication with my daughters and two son-in-laws is with Snapchat. It only lasts 24 hours so no accumulation of messages, which is nice. (unless someone saves a message)

1SE sounds awesome! I love the INK Card app because you can turn one of your photos into a card or postcard directly from the app and have it sent to anyone. It’s super quick, easy, and affordable!

Hi Kelly McGovern  Try it! It's fun and if you miss a day, you can go back and insert a photo or video. I'm going to look into INK Card!!!! Thank you.

Thanks for the app recommendations, Kathy Streib. I'll have to check them out. Can't say I am a big app user and I have deleted several that I downloaded but never used.. I use the health app every day to check on my walking - the neurosurgeon who did my back surgery wants me to walk plenty every day, as does my physical therapist.

Jeff

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS I'm glad to hear you're walking. Larry's neurosurgeon wants him to walk at least one mile straight every day, which we do (and more) It's one of the best exercises you can do.

Are you able to make the cookies this year???

Dec 11, 2025 04:43 PM
Jeff Dowler, CRS

Hi Kathy Streib We did make the cookies again with the help of 4 grandchildren so it was lots of fun. I didn't count them this year but it was over 100 (6 cookie canisters). They are delicious.
