This weekend, Saturday December 13th is the Firebird Festival in Phoenixville, PA. Every year a large bird, a Phoenix, is built by local artists for the festival, which can be attended by over 10,000 visitors who visit the town for the lighting of the Phoenix.

Phoenixville, which is named after a nail factory from the 19th century, lights the bird which is symbolic from ancient Egypt for rebirth and a new start. Phoenixville which has seen a lot of investment in new homes, new businesses and plenty of great restaurants and micro breweries is a well known destination for visitors to the area.

This year the festival will take place at Reservoir Park, at 601 Franklin Avenue, the bird burns at 8 pm. The bird is 20 feet high and takes three months to build. You can find more photos on Instagram at firebirdfestival.

Phoenixville is one of the more affordable towns in our area for young home buyers to find a home. It is attractive for many reasons, location, plenty of restaurants and it also has a great farmers market during the summer months.

Nick, it’s nice to read that so many people come together each year to celebrate its renewed energy and growing community.

Nick, as I read the title and the text, my mind was thinking will they burn it, and then I watched the video and got my answer. Will they leave the ashes there so the bird can rise from them?

Oh wow, Nick. I've actually never heard of Phoenix, PA... so I'd never heard of this festival, either. But it sounds amazing and something that should be seen at least once.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 too many people for me, not a lover of large crowds. But it definitely generates some buzz for the town.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 every year, it is a big community involvement.

George Souto 10,000 people attend, so too many for me. They raffle the lighting of the bird.

Nina Hollander, Broker watching a video of it is enough for me.

Joan Cox we are actually attending a friends Latke party, and I do do not like very large crowds either. Although it does sound like something fun to see.

That sounds like a fun festival and very interesting as well.  I don't think Phoenix has any such celebration, haha.

Will Hamm lots of different events go on around here this time of year. Did you ever go to the railway set up at the Brandywine Museum.

Kathy Streib I am sure it is a fascinating thing  to see.

Brian England maybe you can get them motivated to start one.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - Having been in multiple fires, I have a kind of sadness when the topic comes up. I watched the video and read your story. It did not make me feel sad at all. The history behind the bird is fascinating. I now have a greater appreciation for the celebration, and I loved the dancing in the video:

"Phoenixville, which is named after a nail factory from the 19th century, lights the bird which is symbolic from ancient Egypt for rebirth and a new start."

Patricia Feager I am glad that the story did not make you sad. I can understand having lost homes to fire how the subject can be fraught for you.
