This Week…An Upside Down Salad

Cooking is fun for me…I don’t even mind cleaning up. The time-consuming part of cooking for me is prepping. For example, when you make a cake or anything with more than 3 ingredients, it’s a lot easier if you gather your ingredients first. Next, measure what you need,

At that point, it’s usually just a matter of dumping, stirring, or mixing.

A few years ago, I saw something on one of the cooking shows about putting your salad dressing in the bowl first. I tried it, and it works!

One weekend, I’d already prepped my salad…All I had to do was toss it. Dinner would be something grilled. But the family called and wanted us to join them for dinner.

The best part…the salad was still fresh the next day!

Here’s my non-recipe…more like a cooking tip.

If you have a busy day or lots to do to prepare your dinner,  try making an Upside Down Salad.

All you need to do is put your dressing in first, then layer backwards until you end with your greens. If you add crunch, such as nuts, add them after you toss the salad.

This saves you time and keeps the salad from getting soggy.

Sometimes, it’s fun looking at things with an upside-down view of the world.

Good morning, Kathy.
I like that tip. It's not something that would have ever occurred to me.
Happy Saturday!

Carol Williams   we have salad with every dinner so I always prep the salad ahead of time. It makes it easier when I'm trying to cook everything else.

Kat Palmiotti  That's it exactly!!   When I'd prepped the salad, then didn't eat it until the following night, it was not soggy at all!!!!

The hassle of prep work is likely why I don't enjoy cooking, haha.  I don't like hassle in general.

Brian England It's easier preparing a meal for the two of us. If it were just me, I'm not sure what I'd do. Maybe have soup every night.

Good morning Kathy. The only time I tried it this way was when I accidentally put the dressing in the bowl before I added the ingredients and I don't remember layering backwards. The dressing first was the backwards part. Have to suggest to the wife we give it a try for real the right way. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin I saw something where the chef put the dressing on the inside of the salad bowl.

Good morning Kathy Streib I eat a salad almost every day, I never thought of placing the dressing first, but I may try it today. Enjoy your weekend and keep the necklace on.

Hi Katina Hargrove 352-551-0308 I love doing it this way. I can make the salad when I have time. Put it in the fridge, then toss it for dinner.

How totally cool is that, Kathy! I'd never heard of this option, but will definitely try it out. Thanks for sharing this great idea.

Nina Hollander, Broker let me know if you try it. We put pistachios and pumpkin seeds on our salads so I put those on after the salad is tossed.

Kathy Streib I'll need to remember to lay in a supply of pistachios and pumpkin seeds. Of course, once I have them in the house I eat them before they ever make it to a salad! :)

Usually the recipes I see here destroy my abilities in the first minute. I like this idea. I do limit my intake of dressing, but seams like a great way to work in all your favs in a salad and keep it from getting soggy. HMMMM

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty you could do it with lemon juice and oil too. We don"t use that much dressing either. Try it!!!

Hello Kathy Streib I am all about salads ... and all of my dressing is made fresh with olive oil, some kind of citrus, and spices.

This is a great tip ... and I would not dress a salad until I am ready to eat it.
