Poinsettia flowers are hidden inside the red leaves. They are the tiny yellow balls in the center. The most common color are red leaves, but you can find them in other varieties, such as a creamy white, white, pink, or speckled.
To keep your Poinsettia Plant healthy during the holiday season, it will need supplemental water to keep it moist and healthy. Depending on soil, the amount of water will vary. Big box stores typically use commercial growers that use soilless mixes of sphagnum peat, perlite, or vermiculite.

When purchasing a Poinsettia Plant, lift it up and hold it. If the plant is heavy, there is plenty of moisture in the pot. If it feels light, then keep the plant watered medium to dry. Purified water may be the best water. However, never leave your Poinsettia Plant standing in water. Your plant needs drainage holes in the wrap covering the pot. Check by removing the tray to see if the water can drain fully.
To keep your Poinsettia Plant healthy, provide some indirect light. Be sure to select a location where no hot air is blown from heating vents or cold air from opening outside doors. Poinsettia Plants are beautiful plants to look at and to decorate with; however, you will not get a scent and may never bloom more than once. Plants may be mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Consult with your Veterinarian for advice.
