Journaling for December 14, 2025
A dear friend of mine and I celebrated Christmas together at LLela in Lewisville on December 13, 2025.
These are the gifts I made and the mug I received while enjoying the spirit of Christmas. Every year, the volunteers from LLela present their guests with a new cup of kindness to keep after they serve us a hot cup of cider. I liked the mug. I am grateful!
In the top left corner, I chose a pinecone, tied the top with string, smeared the cone with peanut butter and rolled it in seeds for a birdfeeder. Below the pinecone is a candle hand made by dipping my wicks tied to a heavy nut into the hot wax. The trick is to dip 2 seconds, pull out for 10 seconds, and repeat a few times for the wax to melt into a tapered candle. I think I did well! On my display, you'll see the star was placed on the top of a stick before tying strips of fabric around the thin stick to hang on a tree. The last thing I made was using an acorn, wrapping it in fabric then twisting and tying the ends with yarn. Pioneers had a hard and simple life.
Stepping inside the Minor-Porter House where the last family with five children lived, was a wooden table where the mother prepared and served her homemade meals. The plates they ate off of were flipped over to have dessert. Everything they made was made by hand.
What I enjoyed the most was the interactions and conversations with the children and their parents. I reached the conclusion, that no matter when parents have children, life can be hard, and it can be joyful. Children do not have any life experiences before their parents. All they have is what they get now. Let's count our blessings and learn by doing more for ourselves and for the next generation. Children ARE our future.
