Winter weather effected home showings in Columbus

Columbus, Worthington, and much of Central Ohio picked up 5.5 inches or more of snow over the weekend, along with some bone-chilling temperatures and wind chills dipping to nearly minus 10 degrees.

As of Monday, we’re slowly thawing out, and by midweek temperatures are expected to climb back into the 40s and low 50s, so most of this should melt off quickly.

Needless to say, the weather had a real impact on home showings. I only had two showings all weekend—no surprise there—though interestingly, we did see a couple of offers come in despite the conditions.

Curious—what was your weekend like where you live?

Good morning, Joe... it's been chilly in Charlotte area. Of course, our chilly is what you consider a warmup! :)))

Joe, that sounds like a classic Midwest winter weekend. Snow, extreme wind chills, and single-digit temps will slow foot traffic anywhere, so two showings is actually not surprising at all.

What’s telling is that you still saw offers come in. That usually means the buyers who are out in those conditions are serious and motivated, not just browsing. Once the thaw sets in and temperatures rebound, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a quick bounce in showing activity.

Winter weather always tests the market’s patience, but it often filters out the tire-kickers and highlights real demand.

14* here this morning, I need more layers!!

Good Monday morning, Joe. We are also impacted by early winter weather conditions in Maryland. 17 degrees as I post this comment with snow and ice on the ground. Schools have a two hour delay this morning.

We had almost 4" of snow and fortunately for me the snow blower started up with no trouble. By the end of the week, we are supposed to warm up a bit and then hear about flooding

Wow, Joe! That snow sounds intense ❄️. No wonder showings slowed, but glad a few offers still came in. Hope everyone stays warm out there!

Hi Joe, at least the cold weather brought some offers. We write offers in a nice and cozy office, no matter what the weather is. :)

Our weather here in the Phoenix metro area is sunny and warm. I did a walk-thru in the morning and an open house in the afternoon. Few but serious Buyers visited.
