From Classics to New Classic Hits: Favorite Christmas Songs For 2025

Do You Have A Favorite Christmas Song🎶?

“Let us have music for Christmas…
Sound the trumpet of joy and rebirth;
Let each of us try, with a song in our hearts,
To bring peace to men on earth.”

... Mildred L. Jarrell

Christmas music is one of the things that brings the holiday season to life. It sets the mood, sparks memories, and adds a sense of warmth that few other traditions can match. Whether it’s a timeless carol or a contemporary holiday favorite, these songs have a way of making everyday moments feel festive. I look forward to Christmas music every year, and once December arrives, my car radio stays locked on stations that play nothing but holiday music. So, what's on your holiday playlist?

What's On Your Holiday Playlist

I'm sure we all have our favorite Christmas songs. My personal preference remains for traditional songs like Silent Night, O' Holy Night, Joy To The World,  Hark The Herald Angels Sing, etc.  I suspect I'm a bit "old fashioned" in my Christmas music preferences. My absolute favorite Christmas song is O' Holy Night. So, what's your favorite Christmas song that best captures the spirit of the season for you?

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear."

... Buddy The Elf

Hello Nina - while spinning 45s and longer versions, listening to AM/FM tunes and Muzak memories are recollections, my knowledge of music is limited.   And admittedly it may be stuck in the past in some ways.    Your post brings some blasts from those days.

Michael Jacobs good morning, Michael... I remember those 45s, as well. I guess I've just seriously aged myself.

We have a CD by Jim Brickman on Christmas songs that we play during the holidays.  It is also mandatory that we watch Frosty with each grandchild--this year, it will be a Zoom call with Frosty in the background.  Happy Holidays!!  Enjoy the slow days.

Nina Hollander, Broker - I have fond memories of many of the old classic Christmas songs. Early this morning I heard White Christmas is till #1. I think those stats are all subjective.

Patricia Feager hi Patricia... I don't really know ASCAP's methodology, but I check their rankings each year and they do change from year to year. Kelly Clarkson was #1 the last couple of years and just dropped to #2 in the "new classics" rankings. My personal favorites don't change, but it's fun to see the changes from year to year.

Nina, My Christmas music tastes are different from yours. I skip most of the traditional songs and go straight for the upbeat, fun ones like All I Want for Christmas Is You and Jingle Bell Rock never fail to make me sing along.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 hi Sheila... I was raised on traditional, religious Christmas carols... so those will always be my first go-to. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy all the secular holiday music.

My parents used to play Reader's Digest 33rpm records full of traditional Christmas songs when we were young, so I do tend to gravitate towards those. I love Silent Night, the Little Drummer Boy, Joy to the World, and others. But I'm totally open to hearing new ones, and listening to old favorites done a bit differently.

Also, I read through the lists of Christmas songs and could sing the beginning of every one so I guess I've heard a lot of different songs!

Kat Palmiotti good morning, Kat... we played Christmas song records as well when I was growing up... but I've never heard of the Reader's Digest records... which is odd as my mother had a Reader's Digest subscription for more years than I can count. That was her subway reading commuting to work in NYC.

My dad worked at Reader's Digest for many years, Nina Hollander, Broker - we had RD sheet music books (I still have several), records, magazines, etc. They actually had quite a few products!

This isn't the one we had, but here's one set I just found online (I think ours had a green cover).
