Go With the Flow!

By
Real Estate Agent with Dirt Road Real Estate SA676002000

Life is full of changes. Often ,we attempt to fight those changes. This fighting creates internal stress and essentially an unhappy person.

Being in sales for more years than I care to count, I have always been a process person. Yet after 8 years in this industry, the processes continue to change to adapt with the constant changes.

Today, bright and early a client text me and cancelled a showing because he was sick. This was the second cancellation as he initially shared the incorrect date for me.  The tour of this home in Meadview, AZ is his second and the home is 90 minutes away from my home office.  Actually, both cancellations worked out because other things that happened.

Go with the Flow!

Yesterday, I had an unscheduled afternoon appointment with my Dentist as I feared I had a tooth infection.  Luckily, no infection, but instead he suggested fitting a crown to keep the tooth from breaking. The filing was large and the tooth was old.  My dentist saw the beginning of a stress crack and hence the crown.  I pondered for a few moments, determined now was better than later. Ninety minutes later I am out of the Dentist’s office with a temporary crown and an appointment in mid January for the actual crown.

Go with the Flow!

Today would have been a made rush. A trip to Meadview, AZ (now cancelled); a bank, grocery stop, gas, post office stop all before 1pm as I have a hair cut scheduled and confirmed. Now I can relax, eat breakfast at home and do the errands without the time crunch.

Go with the Flow!

In real estate, especially in real estate, having an attitude of go with the flow is necessary if not required.  Processes, procedures, appointments, etc. change due to one’s own experiences or to outside influences from clients to legal requirements.

Go with the flow does require some flexibility and an attitude of stay calm. Life is indeed crazy busy.  We can either fight the craziness while increasing our stress or just the opposite.

Remember, the flow can always be diverted!

This is such a relatable reminder, especially for anyone in real estate or sales where plans shift without notice. I love how your real examples show that “go with the flow” is not about giving up control, but about choosing calm over chaos when life reroutes the day.

The cancelled showing, the unexpected dental visit, and the suddenly open schedule all underline the same truth—flexibility often creates better outcomes than forcing a plan to work. That lesson applies beautifully to real estate, where clients, timelines, and regulations are always evolving.

Staying adaptable, steady, and grounded really is part of the job. Thanks for sharing a thoughtful, real-life perspective that encourages patience and perspective when the day does not go as planned.

Leanne Smith - Going with the flow is a powerful metaphor when diversion occurs outside of your control. Sometimes cancellations (especially ones that are about 90 minutes or more away) is a blessing!

Good luck with your dental work and may you always find ways to take care of your own immediate needs. Thank you for sharing this wonderful entry for the ActiveRain Monthly Challenge - December 2025 . This is a great 'aha' for everyone!

Hi Leanne- and a very good point!  Today was a Go with the Flow day for me. Car needed to be towed, which took over 4 hours on a day I needed to prepare for 37 coming over for Christmas. I took a breath and went with the flow.

God Jul and saddened to read of your vehicle issues. Thankfully all I had to make for Christmas dinner was overnight coleslaw and deviled eggs. I am sure your Christmas feast will be fabulous.

Going with the flow can sometimes be difficult - but it's so necessary as we cannot change what happens to us, only how we deal with it!

How true, we have 100% control of how we react to any situation. Your words remind me of Elie Wiesel and how in the worst of human suffering he managed to survive.
