I've Seen North Dakota in Films for Years
Our Zoom call for the Tuesday before Christmas was presented by Bob Timm, on the state of North Dakota. He mentioned some notables that called North Dakota home, as well as facts for which North Dakota is most famous.

When one thinks of the Continent of North America, we see the USA and Canada. If someone were to ask where the geographic center of the continent might be most would not get it correct.
That small dot so close to the Canadian border, represents Rugby, Noth Dakota and slight wet of there, still within the sphere of Rugby exists a 21 ft tall monument that is the geographic center of North America. Remember that Canada extends to the Arctic Circle.
The fascination and that which ran my mind wondering was when Bob "RealMan" Timm showed a slide of Teddy Roosevelt and his love for the western side of the state, which is referred to as the Badlands. and is now part of the National Park service.
The name was handed down by Native Americans that referred to the area as mako sica, bad land.
The contours of the area were formed by the Little Missouri River as it flowed to the Yellowstone River with a path that snaked through the soft land,
With the plateaus left behind by the flow of the waters, and the grass lands of the valleys, it was a hard land to traverse which left if for the most adventurous. These were the scenes I remember from the early cowboy movies.
A young, grieving Teddy Roosevelt credits the harshness of the land that gave him the strength to become the 26th President of the United States. He also included the area when he ws creating the National Parks system so that the beauty would be preserved.
Oh yes, he talked about the bees and some birds as well. The fact that per capita the people of North Dakota consume almost 50 gallons of beer a year. That golfers in North Dakota get to appreciate the beauty of the landscape and that there are very few golfers so tee times are pretty easy to acquire.
