Lake Harbor Park is a 189-acre waterfront park offering a rare combination of Lake Michigan beach, wooded dunes, inland lakes, and well-maintained trails.


🕰️ Park History

  • 1980: City acquired the former Swett property

  • 1982: Lake Harbor Bridge, roadway, and paved parking improved access

  • 1994: Expansion with CWC sand mining property and Mona Shores school property

  • 2000: Addition of Whitey’s Woods (10 acres)

  • Today: 189 acres of protected public land


đźš¶ Trails, Walkways & Scenic Features

  • Fishing walkway along Mona Lake, passing under the bridge

  • Picnic area overlooking the Mona Lake Channel

  • Scenic observation deck (completed in 2000)

  • Interpretive trail to dunes, boardwalks, and Lake Michigan beach

  • Wooden walkway connecting the beach to Whitey’s Woods

  • Multiple natural trails—some more challenging—through woods and dunes

  • Recently added trail markers throughout the park


🌲 Whitey’s Woods

A forested dune area with trails winding through hemlock, white pine, and beech trees. The land was once owned by Ralph “Whitey” Edlund, who welcomed the community to explore and learn from nature. Preserved in 2000 for future generations.

  • ~18 picnic tables

  • Picnic shelter with room for 8 tables

  • Tables and shelter are free, first-come, first-served, year-round

  • Restrooms available
