It's the weekend, a time when ActiveRainers share various recipes with the community, and with the BananaTUDES! group. One night this week, I had company coming over and wanted something easy to make. So it was time to pull out the crock pot and get that pulled pork recipe going!
Pulled Pork Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, diced/chopped
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 2 Tablespoons sweet paprika
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
- 4 pounds boneless pork shoulder blade roast/pork butt
- soft sandwich buns or ciabatta rolls
- dill pickles (optional)
- potato chips (optional)
- hot sauce (optional)
Directions
1. In slow-cooker, stir all ingredients up to and including black pepper. Add pork to sauce mixture and turn to coat with sauce.
2. Cover slow cooker with lid and cook on low setting 8-10 hours or until pork is very tender. (I used approximately 6 pounds of meat, and it was done around 9 hours)
3. With tongs, transfer pork to large bowl. Turn slow cooker setting to high and boil sauce to reduce slightly. (I didn't bother with this step but it's probably a good idea).
4. While sauce boils, with 2 forks, pull pork into shreds. Return shredded pork to slow cooker and toss with sauce to combine. Cover and heat through on high if necessary. (I just left the meat in the cooker and shredded it while in there.)
5. Spoon pork onto sandwich buns and serve with optional items if desired.
I served with pickles and home made coleslaw. As it happened, our friends had to cancel so we had a LOT of leftovers! We're still working through them. They're good the second and third time around also!
And there you have it, an easy to cook recipe!
