Got Old Tech? Don't Trash It!

Recycle Your Electronics By Donating To Goodwill At Ballantyne's Tech Drive

On Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 you can  recycle used (and new) electronics with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont and the Dell Reconnect program from 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM at 15810 Ballantyne Medical Place at Brixham Park. Through Goodwill’s Dell Reconnect partnership, your electronics will be responsibly cleared and recycled. This is a free event.

Did you know that electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste problem in the world? Did you know that you can donate your used electronics to Goodwill, whether or not they work? In partnership with Dell Reconnect, Goodwill will refurbish your donated electronics to sell at their tech store, the GRID: Powered by Goodwill. If Good will can’t sell your electronic donations, they will recycle them responsibly, ensuring they don’t end up in a landfill.

Goodwill accepts electronic and technology in all conditions and brands:

Desktops, laptops, mice and keyboards
iPads, Surfaces, tablets & e-readers
Monitors
Printers & scanners
Flat-screen televisions
Home audio & theater equipment
Video games & gaming systems

If you're unable to donate on January 28th in Ballantyne, note that Goodwill has 36 donation centers in the Charlotte metro area where you can donate your electronics year-round.

Good morning! It's great there's another option for getting rid of technology - besides just throwing it in the garbage.

Kat Palmiotti hi Kat... I love that there is a tech drive in my "neighborhood" each year. But I also love that Goodwill makes it easy to recycle throughout the year.

Good morning, Nina.
I need to check whether our Goodwill in Wenatchee is part of that program. Thanks for the heads up.

Carol Williams hi Carol... I think if you go to the Dell link I provided in my post, you can enter your zip code and see where you can recycle.

The link indicates no drop-off locations near Wenatchee. 😢 Perhaps in the Seattle or Spokane areas. I'll check into those, even though I don't get to either place very often.

Carol Williams well that's a bummer. Maybe another organization in Wenatchee does some recycling of electronics?

The city occasionally holds recycling events that include old appliances. I've missed a few, so I need to pay more attention or contact the city to see if they have any scheduled.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 hi Sheila... this is such a great program... I believe it's been around for some 20 years with Dell. In Ballantyne they've been sponsoring a recycling event for at least 10 years.

Good morning Nina. A great solution for a growing problem. Other areas should adapt some type of recycling opportunities.

Wayne Martin no kidding, Wayne! And if they offered this for free I'm sure they'd get plenty of participation.

Nina Hollander, Broker - We are not allowed to discard our electronics in our trash cans for pick - up.

Community recycling for electronics is the best way for everyone.

Jan 07, 2026 05:53 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Patricia Feager the problem is that if someone puts their electronics in a trash bag and throws it in the bin...no one knows. Fortunately, I have a Charlotte recycling center minutes from my house... but many people don't live close to one. I like this Goodwill program because they first attempt to refurbish the electronics and sell them to people who can't afford new.

Jan 07, 2026 06:38 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Patricia Feager that's another really great way to recycle unneeded electronics.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Flower Mound has an effective electronics and drug recycling program. For my computers and electronics, I have a guy (now over 100 years old) who is very active with the VA and he takes what I have to donate to the Disabled Veterans who really appreciate receiving it.

Joan Cox I recycle electronics regularly... so don't have a lot each year, but it still seems there's something to bring over every year.

We got rid of a bunch of our old electronics free at Staples. It was wonderful getting rid of it!

Sharon Tara hi Sharon... I don't know that I've ever seen anything at a local Staples that hinted at electronics recycling. I'll have to take a look the next time I'm at one of their stores.

Hi Nina- remember the days when our parents had the first television they ever bought for years and years. In today's throwaway world, our devices are obsolete in a year or two. I'm glad your area has a place for people to safely dispose of their electronics.

Kathy Streib I have a small TV in one of my guest bedrooms that has to be 25 years old, if it's a day.

Nina we have a dedicated trailer at our dump for electrical equipment we don't want anymore.  I took a bunch of stuff there last year, but I need to make another trip again this year.

Jan 07, 2026 01:52 PM

George Souto what I like about the tech drive in Ballantyne is they will wipe your computers, phones, tablets for you. I don't like just throwing those away at the dump without everything being wiped.

Expert guidance. Exceptional results.

This was a great reminder of how simple choices can make a real difference, Nina Hollander, Broker, and I’m glad you laid everything out so clearly 🙂. It’s helpful to see exactly what can be donated and how Goodwill puts it all to good use, keeping so much tech out of landfills. Thanks for sharing this and giving people an easy way to do something good!
