Good morning Nina. Very important in most areas. Not so important in Chicago where you can apply for children to attend particular schools. Some register students for schools half way across the city. Those who can't qualify are assigned to local schools and they are all bad. Such a shame. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin hi Wayne... inside Charlotte, a child is pretty much "guaranteed" a space in the local school and we have a lottery system for kids who might be in poorly performing schools to apply to a top school. But there are not as many spaces for those as there are applicants.

My Mom taught in the public schools, and I always found it sad that they weren't run better, haha.

Brian England hi Brian... what is happening in public school systems is a crime as far as I'm concerned.

Hi Nina,
For parents of school-age children, it's more important than ever to do their due diligence in choosing a school district. Don't even get me started on what I think of our current educational system, including the universities.

Carol Williams hi Carol... best not to get me started on that issue, either!

Nina, great post, as buyers do believe school districts are important, even if they don't have children.  Some of our districts command a higher price than others, because of the district.

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner thanks, Joan. I update these school ranking posts of high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools every year. There is no question that homes in neighborhoods served by top schools sell for a big premium in the Charlotte area.

George Souto yes, they are, George. I encourage good school districts even for my clients with no or grown children for that reason.
