What ever happened to S&H Green Stamps

Good morning again, Lise... I know I'm aging myself when I say this but I remember those S&H Green Stamps only too well. As a kid in the 1950's I loved sticking them into the books.

 Customers received stamps at the checkout counters of supermarkets, gas stations and department stores among other retailers, which could then be redeemed for products from the catalog.  Top Value Stamps ceased operations in the early 1980s, after which S&H accepted savings books for those who had unredeemed Top Value books, before S&H itself ceased business.

Oh yes indeed, I remember the green stamps - my mom had her books and after shopping day, we'd stick them in. Thanks for the information!

Hmm, to be honest, I have never heard of S and H green stamps until reading your post, haha.  It sure would be nice if we were able to redeem our points in the Rain for something beneficial, haha.

Years ago, I did receive an ActiveRain T shirt that I still have.

I remember as a child, yes we had green stamps in the UK as well, sitting at the kitchen table and sticking them in the books. It was always fun to look through the catalog to see what could be obtained for what seemed like an ungodly amount of books/stamps.

Yes Lise, I do remember helping my mom paste them into her book and being excited as we filled those pages!

I remember these! I used to go shopping with my mum and watch those green stickers come out of the register. I couldn’t wait to get home and stick them into the books. I’m not even sure what we traded them for.  For me, it was all about the thrill of completing the books!

Lise, you are dating a few of us - and I remember them too.  Like Nina, I remember helping mom put them into the books.

Hello Lise Howe and I remember cashing in some books back in 1973 to get a card table and chairs.  I have to say I when to some places just to get the stamps  LOL

Hi Lise- you most definitely brought back memories for me. I can remember pasting the stamps in the books when I was a kid.  For the life of me, I don't remember my mother redeeming those stamps for anything.

Lise Howe - S&H Green Stamps was how I got the things I needed but couldn't afford to buy when I first got married. S&H Green Stamps was the gift that kept on giving and the merchandise wasn't junk. 

Oh, how I miss those stamps. 

I licked and   stuck a LOT of green stamps for my mama when I was a kid.  And she still has things her house she "purchased" with them.

Between this and the Penny, I feel like I’m getting sold like I’m from the 1800s.

My mother's parents saved S&H green stamps.  Funny thing how some things that were good have gone the way of the DoDo bird.
