Your WHAT In Real Estate Is…?

By
Real Estate Agent with Dirt Road Real Estate SA676002000

Outside of your WHY in Real Estate Is, Your WHAT for me is the most important question to be answered.  I believe if more real estate agents would commit their “WHAT” to writing, the general public would have higher confidence in working with real estate agents.

Now you may be asking yourself, what is the WHAT in real estate. Simply speaking, your WHAT is your Values, your moral code, your ethics, call it what you will.  Your behaviors are a direct results of your values.

For professional real estate agents who are also REALTORS®, there exists a Code of Ethics. In the first article, three words appear for me that sum up how I behave with clients. Those three words are "protect and promote." However, my interactions go beyond clients to customers to vendors to community individuals to friends and family.

Additionally, since I live and work in the high desert of NW AZ, Mohave County, I am consistently aware of the environment from water availability or lack thereof to open range to wild animals as well as plant life. Being aware of one’s environment and attempting to respect it I believe is also a value.

Constitutional property rights are also a big concern. From my education and knowing the US Constitution, the Federal government does not have any constitutional legal authority to own any land outside of DC, forts and harbors.

From being now more aware of these other concerns, and my own numerous rotations around the sun, I have once again updated my values statement from previous ones by adding in the environment (earth’s natural resources) along with Constitutional property rights.

VALUES STATEMENT

With a moral compass strengthened by consistent GRIT and GRATITUDE, I will undertake to PROTECT and PROMOTE my clients by going the extra mile while being appreciative and respectful of my community here in Mohave County, AZ including all stakeholders (local to national) as well as constitutional property rights and the earth’s natural resources. Through continuing education, I will strive to be THE professional TRAILBLAZER who is informed and knowledgeable specific to real estate from local to national and more importantly to apply that knowledge to the benefit of all.

If you have not committed your WHAT that being your “VALUES STATEMENT” to writing, maybe now is the time to secure absolute clarity so your behaviors can further raise the professionalism of this often maligned industry.

This is the second in a four part series.

Leanne Smith - this is a very nice post. I grew up studying Common Courtesy all through grade school. Throughout my High School days, all four years were dedicated to writing essays on subjects like the Morality of the Heart Transplant, the Morality and responsibility you have when you know someone is cheating, the Morality of waiting before marriage and the birth control, etc. and lots Moral and Ethic books that were required reading in my College, Bachelor, and Master Degree Graduate programs. Obviously, morality has been the fabric of my soul way more than half my life. But sadly, I never had essays or books to read about what to do if other people were not being moral or ethical and they were impacting my life?

It was in business when I began working, before I was of legal age to work, that I recognized, something was off from way, way back. These past few months, I've been spending a lot of time sorting through books and papers I saved throughout my life. For example, I found my oldest reported earnings from Social Security and noticed that four of the years I worked, there was no reported income. Then, I remembered - those were the places I worked and was escorted off the premises by people in suits I did not know, who explained the stores where I worked were in violation of Child Labor Laws that were recently enacted.

The WHAT for many started at home and through parental modeling, attending religious services and public or private education reinforced that WHAT. Thank you for sharing your experiences about how your WHAT was developed and nurtured.

Great article Leanne about the where and why of real estate. Of course we have a WHY in Arizona...Why, Arizona in Pima County that is.

Why, Arizona

"The town derives its name from the two major highways, State Routes 85 and 86, that once intersected in a Y-intersection.It is rumored that when named, state law required city names to have at least three letters, so the town's founders named the town "Why" as opposed to simply calling it "Y." The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) later eliminated the old Y-intersection for traffic safety and made a conventional intersection south of the original"
