Is That A Radon Pipe?

Is That a Radon Pipe?

When a buyer said this was a radon pipe, everyone nodded in agreement. I didn’t want to embarrass anyone by correcting them on the spot, but I also knew it wasn’t radon. So, I took this photo.

So, what is it?

It’s a gas pressure regulator dome. Its job is to control the pressure of natural gas before it enters the home. Not exciting. Not pretty. But very important.

I wrote this to explain what it really is, to share accurate information, and to highlight the valuable learning opportunities it offers. Homes are full of things that look mysterious until someone explains them.

And now we all know, definitely not radon.

And That's...

Hello Margaret and good way of explaining it here in the Rain.  Radon is becoming more and more out here in the Denver Area.  Can I re blog this one?

Thank you for educating me!  I would've assumed radon too!

Kelly McGovern, everyone thought it was radon, and they were adamant about it. Thank goodness for my search results.

Some folks believe what they hear from other folks and often what they hear is in error. A very good explanation and when I saw the photo I knew it was for radon.

Radon emits from the earth and radon is naturally occurring. Back in IN our home was on a crawl space with vents to allow the radon gas to move and not be concentrated.

Everyone thought it was radon, but it is a gas pressure regulator.

Margaret correcting gracefully is not always possible but should always be attempted first.  Nothing good ever comes out of embarrassing someone else.

So true, George Souto

Everyone was so sure! So I researched, and when I showed the photo to another contractor, I was told it was radon again. So glad I researched, and it is a gas pressure regulator.

Yes indeed, you were definitely correct about that not being a radon pipe. The radon system is essential a pipe with a fan to blow the bad air out
