Reflect, Rejoice, Renew, as Life Transitions
The January 2026 Challenge is big hosted by Carol Williams and Leanne Smith and is one that each view with a different lens.
Reflections
At 13 years old, I earned my first official pay for work when I sat as a union musician with a group that was, on so many levels an education, but still it was a check for labors.
From there it would be all manner of labors:
- carpenter
- concrete laborer
- postal worker
- landscaper
- mechanical designer
- All while maintaining a band and playing all over the state until graduating college
- Military service,
- 38 years in engineering, engineering service, sales, sales management
- 23 years in real estate
Each taught me something and kept me grounded with the reality that if you want to succeed, you need to get busy.
Rejoice
Entering 2026, the horizon has no direct path as the time for work is over. Family obligations are there that will require attention, but my focus is not the same
As I enter 2026, my income is the remunerations I have accumulated over my working years less the stipends that a judge awarded my ex-wife.
No longer is the clock ticking to remind me that I have an appointment. Now the clock works when I have an early flight with my wife, or an early tee time at the course.
Of course, I can set it for a fixed AM time, for 2 weeks and instead of jumping out of bed to start the workday, shut it off and roll over, unless it is that early tee time.
Renew
This new transition may well prove to be the most difficult for me, as my internal clock has been wound tight for years, and the art of decompression is something that I have not had a lot of experience doing.
As we are all somewhat adaptable, I'm sure I can take a class on how to relax.
Unlike many of the twists I have taken over the years, this requires a bit less energy to achieve, but I'm hoping that it does take over. Quite possibly the joints, and muscles, will remind me of that far too often.
Each day may be a new adventure and as I have never read this book, I am anxious to see what the next chapter brings.
