After 21+ in this wonderfully crazy business (and most of them as a single mom), after showing up for my clients and growing through every market shift, and after months of classes and studying, I finally did the thing. I passed the Maryland Broker Exam yesterday. I quietly celebrated with my mini last night, letting it sink in.

I am ready for what comes next!

Thank you, Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400, for lovingly hounding me to go for it, for our many chats over the years, for brainstorming, commiserating, celebrating, and collaborating. You've played a huge role in this accomplishment. Thank you for being one of my cheerleaders. I am so lucky to have you in my corner!

Huge congratulations to my friend Andrea, who officially passed her broker’s exam today. I could not be prouder of her. I have been gently, persistently, lovingly hounding her to go for it, and today she did. She called me from the testing center with the news, and I felt so honored to be her first call before she even called her mom.

That moment alone tells me how meaningful this milestone is. Becoming a broker is no small accomplishment. It takes courage, commitment, and confidence. Andrea, you earned every bit of this, and I am beyond excited for you and what this next chapter holds.

So proud. So happy. So grateful to share this moment with you.

21 years, Andrea! Wow! I've always gotten my broker's licenses within a year or less of initial licensure! Congratulations again. May you have at least  21 even more successful years as a real estate broker.

Congratulations Andrea Bedard

Thank you, Nina Hollander, Broker! Things work a little differently in MD. You need at least three years of being actively licensed as a salesperson, plus 135 classroom hours, before you can be approved for the broker exam. It was logistically impossible to take the classes when my kids were younger. So, I focused on honing my craft as an ABR, CIPS, and stager instead :)

Andrea Bedard I get it. In North Carolina we did not have a time requirement when I got my broker's license in 1999. Just the 120 hours of classroom work, school exams, and state exam. Now we are an all broker state and you have two years to complete your broker classes and exams.

It's so interesting to hear how other states handle it. Is there still some form of hierarchy, Nina Hollander, Broker

I am trading up to Associate Broker because I have no plans of opening up my own shop (for now).

Andrea Bedard you are initially licensed as a PB (provisional broker) and have two years to get your full broker's license. PB's must work under the supervision of a firm's managing broker. If you want to be a managing broker you need to go to additional courses to be BIC-eligible (Broker-in-Charge). I have been BIC-eligible for at least 15 years, but I choose not to manage.
