Overcoming Procrastination

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Hamm Homes

Overcoming Procrastination is something that we all have to work on.  It is much harder to start a task than to continue doing it.  Getting started is more than half the battle.  The key is breaking large tasks into smaller, manageable pierces.  It is much easier to schedule and manage a large project  and manage a large project once it's broken down into smaller pieces.  Instead of focusing all your energy on motivating yourself to tackle a project, focus on making the project easier to do.

State your commitments, write them down and be specific and put down a deadline on your calendar and block time out each day to work on it.  Apply a little pressure , by setting a deadline to finish the project, remember if you give yourself to much time, you may never finish it.

Will Hamm Such a good reminder. Breaking big tasks into smaller steps really does make getting started feel doable, and once you start, momentum follows. Simple, practical advice that’s easy to apply.

Will, I think we all do a bit of procrastination at times.   I used to with my newsletters.  It took so long to get them all done.

Procrastination is a constant challenge for me because I often get distracted! I’ve been working on focusing on one task at a time and finishing it before distractions take over. It’s definitely a struggle sometimes.

Hi Will- I am guilty of procrastination when it involves something I don't like doing. You're right...break it down into manageable tasks.

A very good reminder.  Years ago I heard procrastination is a decision not to take action. Today I decided to keep a MUST TAKE ACTION sheet in front of my daily notes. Here in AZ this year I must update my fingerprint card as well as register for some future continuing education classes.
