I have not been all that good at doing the homework (not required) suggested for our Tuesday Active Rain Zoom meeting BUT I am excited to tell you about last Tuesday's meeting with Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, CFSP as he told us all about California (at least as much as you can tell in about 50 minutes).
It's been decades, literally, since my trip to CA so all I know about it is the crazy reports I hear on the news and in social media. Thomas made it clear California is not as crazy as one would think... except maybe in the bigger cities political scenes.
I found some similarities between his market and mine. To begin with no one seems to go through the trouble of saying "San Francisco", it's NOT San Fran or Frisco. It's San Francisco. No one pronounces Minot correctly either (it's NOT Minoooe).
Thomas talked about his love of the military clients that come his way... same here, with the Minot Air Force Base just out of town the bulk of my clientele was military.
While North Dakota is not as diverse as California, Minot is very diverse due to the Air Force, oil field, and Minot State University.
When Thomas brought up the beautiful State/National Parks in CA it got my attention. I love to camp. His favorite is Sequoia. I remember passing through the park and the tree with my parents and being in awe. By coincidence, just before the "official" meeting when we just chat, Debe Maxwell, CRS was telling us about her new Yukon Denali XL. I was thinking her new vehicle wouldn't go through, it would have to go around or up and over 🙃 I have a Denali and they can do amazing things 🙄.
Last of all I had to ask a professional drummer who his favorite drummer is. I was a little surprised that it is John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. I love Led Zeppelin but I never thought about the drums in their music.
In conclusion I want to say I was excited about this zoom as soon as I heard Thomas was the guest. Thomas is one of the very best in our industry. He is a second generation Realtor and knows the business as well as any of my RE mentors and heros. Thomas is also a great example that you can be dedicated to our profession and be a fun guy (not fungi). Thomas is a musician, surfer, DJ, camper, World traveler, and more important than all those he is a dedicated husband who is just as in love with his bride as he was on their wedding day!
Thank you Thomas for a wonderful Zoom presentation.
To those who have not attended the Tuesday meetings, it's time to Zoom, Zoom!
