Be Extra Careful When Driving

Journal Entry for January 15, 2026

Just when you think it couldn't happen, it happened. I am thankful no one got hurt or in an accident. This afternoon a very large 18-wheeler semi-trailer truck decided to make an illegal U-Turn on an eight-lane Long Prairie Road. This is a major road in Flower Mound with four lanes coming and going. Each side had six lanes and two turning lanes. There was no traffic light. The truck driver used all eight lanes to make the U-turn. That means the driver had two steering wheels at the front, and four axles on the rear, along with double wheels on either side of the tandem axles.

I was several cars back in my little car and could not get the license number. The speed limit is 70 mph. I prayed drivers behind me would see the semi-truck making a U-turn with drivers ahead of me that also stopped.

This is the second time I had a scare like that. The previous incident occurred on a major Interstate 635 driving towards Dallas. In that incident, a different 18-wheeler truck was driving in the lane to the right of me, very fast and erratically. Traffic was heavy and I could not change lanes. Just as the trucker passed me, he swerved directly in front of me. I could see underneath the 18-wheeler truck before the truck driver crashed into another truck in front of me to the right. I am thankful for not being decapitated.

All truck driver companies should be investigated for illegal and incompetent truck drivers.

Patricia, How awful that this happened. Situations like this highlight the importance of strict oversight and accountability within trucking companies to ensure drivers are properly trained and qualified.

This is a good reminder for all of us to drive carefully. We see reckless and distracted driving every day in our area.

Roy Kelley - It's hard to be safe on the road when there are so many illegals driving without a license, can't speak English, do not know how to read, navigate, etc. All of our lives are in danger.

Wow, that's terrible. Those drivers had no business driving a semi. Thankfully you are a a defensive driver and were paying attention. Imagine a driver on their phone at the time?

Kat Palmiotti - sadly, defensive drivers are being struck and killed by drivers who do not have a license to drive a truck.

Oh wow, Patricia. This kind of driving on the highways is one of my biggest fears. And I'm not a timid driver by any means and have driven all over the world. If I cam as close to a crash as you did, it would probably take me a long time to get back on the road. I avoid highways like the plague... even if it takes me an extra 10-15 minutes to get somewhere.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Driving to do business, or having to drive at night has always made me cringe.

Patricia Feager I get it. I avoid heavily trafficked roads in the dark.

I can't even imagine how difficult it is to drive one of those things since they are so big, so I definitely empathize with the drivers, but at the same time, they have to be extra careful when navigating traffic.

Brian England - U.S. Licensed Truck Drivers go through intensive training. Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! can attest to what it takes to drive a truck. Illegal Truck Drivers have been given permission to drive trucks with no license. There have been numerous reports of the death to drivers like you and me who were involved in accidents by illegal immigrants driving trucks.

Plain and simple, illegal immigrants need to be sent back home.  If something is deemed not to be legal, then people shouldn't be allowed to do it, haha.

Brian England - thanks! "Plain and simple," is right!

People are dying because companies are handing out CDL's like candy at Halloween to incompetent and in experienced, foreign drivers. It is called vehicular homicide and these irresponsible, egregious business owners and their drivers need to be held accountable, Patricia.

Your comment is greatly appreciated. Too bad you're not on the nightly news for T.V. viewers to hear what you have to say. Maybe a YouTube video would make a greater impact, since many younger people do not watch television anymore.

I know I'm not the only one who is sick of hearing the rhetoric of defending the killers and those committing violence on the streets and on the road. Immigrants who came to America legally and worked their fingers to the bone to eat, find shelter, and a decent job must be rolling in the graves.

Patricia, there several reports of truck drivers driving recklessly.  Both the driver and the company should receive major fines when incidents like yours are reported.
