Journal Entry for 2026

Best Fishing Days

The best fishing days in 2026 in all 50 states include:

    • April - May: Peak Bass & Trout season

    • June/July: Excellent for Catfish, Tuna, and Deep Sea Fishing

    • September - October: Fall frenzy, great for salmon and bass.

    • December - February: Winter cod, flatfish, and ice fishing.

    • Check for local regulations and specific state fishing calendars for information on licensing requirements and most accurate information.

TEXAS BLUEBONNETS

The 2026 bluebonnet season in Texas will begin around late February or March. My mid-April bluebonnets are expected to peak. The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival is tentatively scheduled for April 1 - 30. The exact dates depend on the weather.

As a result of warmer temperatures and severe lack of rain from September through December 2025, with forecasts for little rain in January and February, bluebonnets will likely be lacking.

The best places for bluebonnets may be in the Houston area in March, around Chappell Hill and Brenham. Also, the Dallas-Fort Worth area may have a very good season in late Mach through April. Unfortunately, Austin Fredericksburg, and San Antonio is not expected to see many bluebonnets.

Bird Migration

The best months for bird migration in all 50 states in 2026:

  • Spring Migration peaks between April and mid-May varying by state.

  • Fall Migration starts as early as mid-August and peaks from late September into October, with some songbirds continuing their journey into November.

  • For more accurate information refer to the BirdCast blog, local cities, and states.

  • Hummingbird - TX Spring Migration (February-May)

    • Gulf States migration begins late January and continues to build through March and April.

    • Central Texas (Austin, San Antonio & Houston - from March - May.)

    • Ruby throated hummingbirds & black chinned hummingbirds along the coast late February. By March numbers should swell.

      • Put feeders up by mid-February or early March.

Hi Patricia...hopefully one day I'll see the blue bonnets "in action." As many times as I've been to Texas in my life, I've yet to see them live.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Seeing bluebonnets in Texas is filled with excited anticipation. They don't last long, but definitely long enough. To see them in an abundance is very exciting!

Patricia, Nice rundown. Fishing really does change with the seasons, and this makes it easy to see what’s best and when.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - I will never forget the first time I went to see the fishermen come ashore with Tuna Fish in Maine. I was SHOCKED to see how big there were. As a Chicago resident at that time, I was expecting to see tuna fish like what you get when you buy it in a can! Boy was I wrong!!!

We have been experiencing Snow Geese migration, there have been waves of hundreds of birds in the air flying over, the noise as they communicate is very loud. Quite amazing to watch and hear. Then today we saw smaller birds flying in a massive swarm, so not sure what they were but guessing they are also migrating. Probably trying to get away to warmer weather.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - What a beautiful and exciting experience seeing Snow Geese migration! When they communicate, you can't mistake them for any other bird that I know!

Thank you for sharing such a vivid and wonderful story about wildlife in Downingtown, PA.

Well not much fishing here in Golden Valley, AZ. Good checklist for those who are into fishing, bird watching, etc.

Leanne Smith - Isn't it interesting how different states and locations get to experience different types of plants, birds, and other wild creatures.

This is some fun information Patricia Feager . You forgot to mention the migration of Snow Birds. They exit North Dakota in mass around Thanksgiving and they usually return mid May.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - There were many things to post about but I wanted to keep it short and highlight just a few. You'd be better to share Snow Bird migration in North Dakota than me!

Patricia Feager a good number of ND snowbirds end up in your neighborhood so I'm sure you notice them arriving as we see them exiting. 🧐

Bob "RealMan" Timm - We do get a lot of birds in Texas! The ones I am most intrigued by are the ones that keep singing in the evening after dark!

Hello Patricia - my fishing experience did not lure me into becoming an avid fisherman.  Perhaps it cast me as an observer who enjoys the scenery.  My first time out with my dad angling in the sport saw me "catching" a long-sleeved golden-hued shirt - boy that was a real whopper!

Michael Jacobs - What an enjoyable time you had when you accompanied your dad when he went fishing. I laughed when you caught the "long-sleeved golden-hued shirt!" I'll bet it gave you a struggle to reel in too! You never know what you'll get out of the deep blue sea or ocean or rivers!

Cheers to many more pleasant and funny memories.

Patricia Feager  My Dad went deep-sea fishing. Every day is a seed day at my house. The birds and squirrels come to visit. Love this post Cleo and I watch the birds and squirrels

Hannah Williams - WOW! I think you're the first person who ever shared their father went deep-sea fishing. My dad fished in a boat in Lake Michigan and in the rivers in the Chain-O-Lake. I still remember how much peace and enjoyment it gave my dad. I'll bet you have many good memories tool

I love that you and Cleo enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. I do believe squirrels and birds recognize us and appreciate the handouts too!

Patricia we put out hummingbird feeders, and we get the lost activity from June to September.

George Souto - there is such a fascination with hummingbirds. I bought a book about them some time ago and was fascinated by their anatomy! Out of all the birds in the world, hummingbirds are very interesting!

That's cool that you get to enjoy them from June to September! I find it hard to photograph them because they are so quick!

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI - I agree with you 100% As a mother, I never took my kids to Disneyland or Disney World. We spent our summers in the woods and forests discovering all the simple pleasures hiking the trails and exploring wildlife.

Definitely, simple pleasures are more enjoyable and PEACEFUL than the Indy 500!

I have never been much of a fisherman myself, but I have enjoyed being out on a boat while others fish, haha.
