Zoom Homework: California a Great Place to Visit

This past week, Thomas J Nelson offered up some of the outstanding sites of California that were made to be viewed. As he started near his hometown, and detailed so many of the sites around San Diego, I recalled some of the vacation spots we had visited.

As San Diego is a coastal town, it offers so much for so many.

As it is a deep-water port on our west coast, our Navy has a large presence in the area as does the Air Force with the training for fighter pilots takes place at the Miramar base in CA.

There are also many other training bases for the marines at Pendleton as well as the Coast Guard.

Of course, there are many recreation locations as well, many near the Coronado beach area as evidenced by the 2 people frolicking in the surf above, They do look vaguely familiar.

One of the more famous sites on that beach would be the Hotel Coronado, a grand structure still maintained in its grandeur from the past time as it was built in 1888 and part of the Hilton hotel gallery of special properties.

It was also made additionally famous in the movie Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon and has a lifelike poster in one of its walkways.

The San Diego area is also home to the world-famous zoo, wildlife park, as well as many Championship golf courses and the LEGOLAND park.

Thomas talked about showing his home movies and obviously I can do the same as we have visited all over CA across 4 long vacations and it was well worth the time.

I did visit the San Diego zoo during my one California trip in the late 1970s. Otherwise, you've definitely seen a lot more of the state than I have (so far!)

I love visiting the San Diego area, but haven't been there for a bit, other than recently embarking on a cruise from San Diego, haha.  In December, I will visit again, and I am looking forward to it.

Brian England  There is a lot to do there and if one is into foreign travel, one can walk to Mexico to Tijuana

Good morning, Ed. I agree. California is a great place to visit. I've lived in California and I've visited California. I prefer to visit.

Nina Hollander, Broker  I agree. According to the numbers that Thomas presented, CA residents are moving out due to high costs

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 hi Ed... I lived in San Francisco from 1974-1976 and even 50 years ago I was shocked by the cost of living and taxes compared with NY City from where I had moved.

Ed my wife is from San Mateo, and the Aircraft Carrier I was on was based out of Alameda, across the bay from San Francico.  There has been a lot of changes since my wife, and I left there in 1974.

George Souto  We have spent time on 2 vacations to the San Francisco area and it changed significantly in the span of the 10 years between our vacation.

Hi Ed:

I enjoyed reading your perspective on San Diego from your visits! We visited CA multiple times for pleasure and for business before making the decision to move here from Boston in 2005. The Hotel Del is a great place to visit especially at holiday time. I enjoy living at the coast but like that we can also visit the mountains and the desert in about 2 hours, too.

Jeff Dowler, CRS  It was on this trip with my wife and her daughter and grandson that we drove north for the Meet-up

Hi Ed Silva, 203-206-0754

I wondered if that was the same trip. The meetup sure was fun, and as I recall you joined a meetup back in your neck of the woods on the phone on our way back to Carlsbad.
