A Cleansing with a Fresh Coating of Snow

It's January in New England, and with the dropping of temperatures there's also something else that drops and that's snow.

When I looked out this morning it was white, and I don't recall hearing that in the forecast yesterday.

It was a little less than 2 inches and left the trees and ground with a fresh white blanket.

It was cold enough, so cleanup was easy, yet the frosting it left on the trees was pretty and may well stay around for a couple of days.

The birds had little trouble finding the feeder so that is fine for them as well.

Wow, that is a lot of snow, and it looks really cold, haha.  A fresh coating makes everything look brand new.

Brian England  It was only 2" but the cold kept it where it fell.

Only 2", that sounds like a lot to someone who doesn't even see 2" the entire year where he lives, haha.

How pretty! I see there are some tracks of some kind in the snow - I like checking out the tracks when the snow is fresh just to see what kind of animals have been around!

Kat Palmiotti  we get deer, some of the tracks are squirrels getting to the feeder, a couple of rabbits

Kat Palmiotti  we had another guest drop by after I commented earlier.

Really beautiful, Ed. But I like seeing this beauty from a distance. We had forecasts for several days of a possible coating of snow... but nothing. And now it's too warm for snow.

This is a peaceful reflection and captures that quiet reset snow can bring. A light snowfall has a way of softening everything, both visually and mentally, especially when it arrives without much disruption. The image of the birds finding the feeder adds a nice sense of continuity and calm. Moments like this remind us to slow down and appreciate the season.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518  It was very pretty and still held it until I got out there with the shovel to clean it up. Then we got a fresh dump overnight.

One of the winter aspects I do miss is the snow on tree branches and the stillness the snow brings.  Lovely photo.

Leanne Smith  it does have a special beauty. Now if I can somehow manage to get it just on the grass and not on the driveway or walks, it would be perfect

I agree about snow staying off the driveway or walks. Some folks did have heated driveway and walks in our township.

Hi Ed:

Those are beautiful pictures, but I am sure glad I no longer have to deal with snow. But there are plenty of places here in CA where I can go to enjoy it should I start missing it. Seeing it on the distant mountains is enough for me.
