People often ask what we do at Woodland Management Service. So today I will be sharing a chapter from our recruiting packet that tells a little about our main clients and projects.
Clients/Projects
- Private Landowners – all sizes and types
- Corporate landowners – mostly timber companies, investment groups, and property management companies
- Other professionals – Attorneys, Accountants, Consultants, Real Estate Agents, etc.
- Government agencies – very seldom
We have four major types of clients. First and foremost are the private landowners, which generally range in size between 40 acres and several thousand acres.
Next are our corporate landowners, which are primarily large investment groups, or large corporations, which deal in forest products such as paper companies.
The third group of clients includes other types of professionals, attorneys, insurance adjusters, real estate agents and accountants.
The fourth category of clients involves government agencies. This is by far our lesser served clientele, primarily due to the fact that they generally ask for services based on price rather than quality, an area in which we are never willing to compromise.

Types of projects we are involved in include just about anything you could imagine involving management of forestland.
Timber Sale Administration
The primary work we do involves timber sale administration where we act as the landowner’s agent to make sure his forest is taken care of during a timber sale. We make sure the proper trees are cut and that he receives maximum compensation for the trees. Most of the time we not only save his or her land from poor cutting practices which could destroy their forest, but we also get the client significantly more money, generally 4 to 10 times more, for the lesser quality trees, than he would have gotten for the entire forest if a logger would have come in on his own and cut it.
Appraisals
Another significant type of project that we engage in is appraisals. Our appraisals range from several hundred thousand acres for some of our large corporate clients to small damage appraisals for private individuals, attorneys or insurance adjusters.
Management Plans
Management Plans are another important project that we engage in. These are basically road maps for the landowners to follow to accomplish the goals that they would like to see happen on their forestlands.
Wildlife Management
Another type of projects that we excel in involves wildlife management, which generally involves manipulation of habitat to create the right environment for different types of wildlife. However, occasionally it does involve wildlife surveys, which basically help us to determine how many of a certain type of wildlife is in an area and why.
