The Life of a Glamorous REALTOR

By
Industry Observer DRE# ER40011786

How many times do our clients say -- You live such a great life!    How many times have our clients told us they want to get their real estate license to follow in your footsteps?

Did they miss that day you had to help a homeowner move some of their furniture to the garage to help the "flow of the home" look better?

How about the time you did the open house and saw no one cleaned the back slider that the dog slobbered all over?

I remember one time my client called after he got a showing and said he didn't make the bed or pick up his dirty clothes.   OH MY, YES, I went over and helped him!

Well, this video sums it up --- the life of a REALTOR isn't always glamorous!

Yes, after years of hard work, it can put some dollars into your retirement fund and can make some trips, or even move to a foreign country!

I am having a grumpy week and I want to shout at everyone - this is not easy!!  I need to focus on my next trip! although right now I am so tired of travel that I probably just need to hunker down, rest and work steadily - then the money for my next trip will magically appear and I will be ready to go!

Lise Howe so sorry you are grumpy, clients?   This job is not easy, and the HTV makes it looks so simple.

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner - I never had clients that though my life was glamorous. They appreciated me and wrote great testimonials for me and we kept in touch.

However, I have to say, I wasn't aware how many eyes were upon me, that I didn't know. For example, the neighbors across the street were very much aware of my comings and goings. They saw me carry signs, wear a suit, carry a briefcase, backpack, and other stuff. It wasn't until years later the woman told me I was the inspiration for her friend who also kept any eye on me and got licensed in real estate too. This happened several times. Neighbors are nosy and they do think when you get a house under contract quickly, you must be making easy money.

Joan Cox, Retired Broker/Owner hi Joan...most people have no clue about how we work and what we do. I've always said that our industry made a big mistake when it decided to keep that "curtain down." We need to communicate with our clients about the realities of our business... and that means that we don't just drive around in nice cars, look at pretty houses, and make a lot of money. Those TV shows about agents in LA and NYC did not help.

Hi Joan,
I never washed windows or took out the trash for any of my clients, but my life certainly wasn't glamorous! Maybe you can do an interview with an agent in Portugal, and let us know how it works over there.

I actually did in England and in Portugal, but not in depth.   They SHOW homes, then get paid, they don't do all the work we do.

Good morning Joan. Real estate is not easy. It is a hard job. And the only benefits are those you self generate. Nina is right the public believes our life is easy. And yes as a listing agent I have paid to have a house cleaned or the windows washed, moved furniture or loaded a Uhaul truck. So you have earned your retirement and the financial freedom you are enjoying.

Wow Wayne, I can't say I have loaded a truck.

I loved the video, very funny and so true. Yes, most people do not realize everything we do to make a deal go to settlement.

So true and very relatable, Joan Cox.

Clients often see the polished moments and miss the behind the scenes work that actually makes transactions happen. From staging help to last minute cleanups, real estate is a service business built on showing up when it is inconvenient and unglamorous.

The rewards can come later, but they are earned through years of problem solving, patience, and doing whatever is needed to protect a client’s outcome. This post captures that reality perfectly.

Working with Kelly is a good move

This had me laughing! Isn’t it the truth? Some of my social media posts use the hashtag #glamorouslife—like when I’m taking trash can serial numbers and water meter readings to send to the town for the final statement or documenting home inspectors mid-inspection. It’s not all fine dining, fancy cars, and vacations! I’ve cleaned, vacuumed, and done the dishes more times than I can count for my listings. I’ve moved furniture, though not to the extent shown in the video. I’ve cleaned up poop in the yard so no one tracks it in during an open house, and I’ve weed-whacked in my open house clothes (one of my #glamorouslife videos). If I can do it, I’ll do it! If I can’t, I tell the seller to handle it. Most days, it’s far from glamorous!

Kelly, not sure I would ever clean up poop....

I can't count the times, I had to get a truck to get the crap out of a house to be able to show it properly and the absentee owners resented me calling them to ask them to resume the lawn service,
