We've been here in the Rain for a long, long time, and many people have stated that their blog just isn't working for them. And there are many ways a blogger can make that statement come true.
1. Failing to understand the difference in ActiveRain accounts. The free Rainer account is great if you want to just post to other Rainers, but it totally shuts you out of publishing to consumers. Get the paid Rainmaker account to allow your posts to be indexed by Google, and work to gain the 500,000 points needed to get your Rainmaker account for free.
2. Outsourcing your blogging and it shows. Being the 5th person on the blog roll with the same photo and title doesn't help gain engagement.
3. Forgetting this is a real estate site and not a reality TV drama show. Provoking people isn't the way to gain referrals or clients. Some opinions are best kept to Facebook and X.
4. Not blogging enough. And related, not blogging enough of the RIGHT stuff. Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. More quality posts, more digital breadcrumbs for consumers to find.
5. Not unique enough. If you're producing the exact same content as the major real estate portals and the other 2000 agents in your market, you're buried so far back in the search results a telescope won't spot you. Think long tail search results.
6. Forgetting geography. Tristate, tricities, panhandle, etc, those terms aren't unique to just one area of the country. Get some specifics about city names, general areas, etc. in your posts and titles to help you be found for YOUR market.
7. Readability. Font too small. Not enough white space. No pictures/graphics. Spelling/grammar are a wreck. People just have too many choices of how to spend their time to struggle with a hard to read post.
Bottom line, there are some fundamentals to follow that help increase the odds your blogging will bring you business. And once you master the basics, your posts can continue to work for you for years and years.
