❄️ Will It Snow or Not? How to Be Ready (and Actually Enjoy It)
Every winter, we all ask ourselves the same question:
“Is it really going to snow… or just rain?”
Forecasts flip-flop, the grocery store suddenly runs out of milk and bread, and everyone waits to see if schools or work will close. And in our area, just a few degrees can mean the difference between a light dusting, icy roads, or a full-on snow day.
The truth is, we can’t control the weather, but we can be ready for it and even have a little fun along the way. 😁
🌨️ Why Snow Is So Hard to Predict
Even meteorologists admit that snow is tricky. A tiny change in temperature, timing, or precipitation type can make all the difference. One forecast might promise eight inches, another might predict rain.
So here’s my advice: plan for snow, stay flexible, and keep your fingers crossed!
🧤 Be Ready Before It Hits
Stock the essentials, but don’t panic.
• Easy meals and snacks
• Hot drinks, cocoa, coffee, tea (don't forget cool whip or marshmellows!)
• Pet food, Human and Pet Medications
• Flashlights, batteries, and fully charged phones
Prep your home.
• Bring trash cans and loose items inside
• Cover outdoor faucets
• Make sure your snow shovel and ice melt are ready
• Turn your thermostat up a couple degrees (that will be 68 degrees at my house)
Prep your car.
• Fill the gas tank (or charge your car)
• Check windshield wiper fluid and blades
• Keep an emergency kit with blanket, flashlight, and snacks
🚗 Safety First
If it’s snowing hard, it’s okay to stay home. But if you do need to drive:
• Slow down!!!
• Leave extra space between cars
• Watch for black ice, especially on bridges and shaded roads
Sometimes the best snow day plan is to simply stay home and enjoy it.
☃️ How to Actually Have Fun
Snow days don’t have to be stressful, they can be memorable!
• Build a snowman or have a snowball fight (Don't forget your gloves!)
• Go for a quiet walk while everything is peaceful and white
• Bake cookies or comfort food
• Watch movies or binge a favorite show
• Let the kids (and your inner kid) enjoy the break
These unexpected pauses often become the little moments we remember most.
🏡 Snow Days Make Home Feel Extra Special
There’s something about winter weather that makes home feel warmer. Whether you’re bundled up outside or curled up inside watching the snow, it’s a reminder to slow down and appreciate where we live.
And if you ever want to talk about your home, neighborhood, or making a move, snow day or not, I’m here to help.
