National Chocolate Cake Day: Life Is Better With Chocolate Cake

By

Life Is Better With Chocolate Cake...

... Especially Today, January 27, On National Chocolate Cake Day!

"My policy on cake is pro having it and pro eating it!"

... Boris Johnson

It's is National Chocolate Cake Day! How are you celebrating this ultimate excuse to indulge? Who doesn't love chocolate cake? I've always said if I were on death row ordering my last meal, my dessert would have to be chocolate cake!

From classic recipes to creative spins, National Chocolate Day is about honoring the versatility and universal love for chocolate cake. Whether you're baking from scratch or picking up a slice from your favorite local bakery, National Chocolate Cake Day is a reminder that sometimes, life is best enjoyed one bite at a time.

"Let's face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does it for me."

... Audrey Hepburn

National Chocolate Cake Day

National Chocolate Cake Day is the perfect excuse to unapologetically celebrate one of dessert’s greatest icons—a rich, indulgent slice of chocolatey joy. Whether it’s a towering layer cake slathered in glossy frosting or a simple homemade version straight from the oven, chocolate cake has a way of feeling both nostalgic and luxurious at the same time.

On National Chocolate Cake Day, calories don’t count, forks dive in without hesitation, and every bite is a reminder that sometimes happiness really is made of cocoa, sugar, and butter. If there were ever a day to say “yes” to dessert first, this is it.

Wondering about the history of chocolate cake? The Clements Library Chronicles provide some great historical background. They've even included a picture of one of the earliest printed recipes for chocolate cake in America.

Five great recipes for chocolate cake to bake on your own:

So how will you be celebrating National Chocolate Cake? Whether you'll be enjoying it solo or sharing it with friends or family, there’s no wrong way to honor this delicious day. So dig in, savor every bite, and make today a little sweeter! Myself, I'll definitely be celebrating with a slice of chocolate cake (with lots of frosting) and a great cup of coffee!

Good morning Nina. What a coincidence! Gloria Todor wrote a post about snow and ice in her area and used chocolate cake as a comparison of cake and frosting. Snow as the cake formed the base and the ice was the frosting. And it made removal easier. Maybe I should have a piece today to ratify her opinion? Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin if you have a piece of chocolate cake today do let me know if Gloria's opinion is ratified. :)

Happy Chocolate Cake day! I don't eat any desserts/sweets but hubby does. Maybe I'll make him a cake this afternoon. But maybe not. :-)

Kat Palmiotti hi Kat... there are lots of things I can give up, but sweets are not one of them.

I am not surprised by that Nina Hollander, Broker - growing up, we had sweets but they were a treat, not a regular thing, so for me, it wasn't a huge deal to give them up!

I ate mine a day too early, I had some left over flourless chocolate cake left over from dinner on Saturday and it went very well with a coffee yesterday as I looked at the piles of snow.

Hi Nina,
I am definitely a fan of chocolate cake. The only thing better than chocolate cake is a German Chocolate cake... which, by the way, isn't German in origin. It is named after the American baker Sam German.

Carol Williams that I know, Carol. I've travelled extensively through Germany numerous times and have tried many a konditerai's goodies... they have no idea what German Chocolate Cake is there. Sort of like in France they don't know what a French manicure it. They call it an American manicure. :)

This one is pure joy, Nina. Sometimes the best posts are the ones that remind us to pause and enjoy the simple things. Chocolate cake really is universal comfort food, and you captured that perfectly. A little sweetness, a little humor, and a lot of relatability. Definitely a day worth celebrating.

Hi Nina- I was hoping you'd cover National Chocolate Cake today!!!   I just finished the video and it was one of the best "how-to" videos I've seen. I loved that he explained "why" you do or don't add certain ingredients.

I love hearing the words "chocolate cake."  Larry makes a chocolate cake for my birthday every year.
