Winter Storm January 25, 2026

Yesterday we finally received the snow and freezing rain that had been predicted for almost a week.

Song Sparrow on SnowThere was so much reporting of this storm in advance that people in our area seemed to be shopping for days to ensure they were ready for the worst.

I have to admit, we did our fair share of pre-storm shopping, and I texted a bit with my sisters about what we were buying and what meals and soups we were all going to make when we were snowed in.

I appreciate the fact that predictions of such weather events are more on target, but Mother Nature never adheres to what the weather people predict, and in a way that is a good thing.

We got a bit less then predicted snow wise, but the sleet/freezing rain part, they were pretty much right on about that.

It was wonderful to watch the snow falling. I’ve always enjoyed snow. But the freezing rain part, was not a fun thing to hear pelting our back roof and windows.

We decided to heed the advise of one of Philly’s weather people, Adam Joseph and not clear anything off our driveway, vehicles and sidewalks until after the storm was totally out of here. So this morning we got to work just as the clouds were breaking. And sure enough that layer of ice was easier to remove because of the 6 inches of snow underneath. Those two layers reminded me of eating a chocolate coated piece of candy with a soft creamy center, that is the ice being the chocolate.

Well everything is now passable and we can drive when needed. Not sure what all the local roads will be like, as some municipalities can be lax about snow removal. We will find out tomorrow.

Now for the week long freeze…..

Glad to hear your preparations were well founded and that you had no real issues. We had a total of 18" before it stopped and our plow guy came though about 10 PM. Tis morning I was able to get out there and break the crust and finish the job.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 Wow 18 inches!  Good you have a person who plows to lighten your load.  Stay warm!

Good morning Gloria. We got a bit over 2 inches here outside Chicago. Most came overnight so did not get to see it come down at is heaviest. Nothing like your experience with an ice topping. Snow as the cake and chocolate as the frosting is a new one but your weatherman tip should get more exposure. Stay safe and warm.

Wayne Martin I bet you are experiencing the bitter cold, maybe even for a longer stretch than us here in SE PA. Funny how these images come to mind while shoveling....the ice layer.  Take care

Good morning, Gloria... delighted to hear that you survived the snow storm. It was more of an ice storm event in the Charlotte area... but not as bad as predictions, so while we were home for the better part of a day and a half, we lost no power and by yesterday afternoon much of the ice was melted and run off.

Nina Hollander, Broker Good it was short lived in your area.  But that ice is so dangerous for those that have to venture out in it.  Take care.

I am glad that winters in my neck of the woods are mild; from your photos and others I have seen, most places across the country are too cold for my blood right now, haha.

Brian England Yes you are lucky, but then on the flip side I would not want to be in your area in the summer, with your long stretches of 3 digit temps.  Take care.

Yes indeed, leaving a snow covering so the ice has something to fall on besides the driveway was great advice. I'm glad the storm is gone!

Kat Palmiotti I was so glad we did not shovel earlier as a few of our neighbors did, and they had to use ice picks.  Back breaking work. Hopefully your winter is not so snow ladened.
