Friday Flags: The School Flag Caught my Attention

In our state, and many others as well, we make our property tax payments in 2 splits. The bills come out with cars and the first half of the real estate payment due in July, and the second half of the real estate payment is due in January.

I made my way to town hall to drop off the second payment and as I walked back to my car, something was trying to get my attention.

The flag in front of the Regional Middle School, Long Meadow was trying to get my attention.

I didn't want to get into the school parking lot, but the flag seemed to just want to let me know how it looked.

In as much as I had just completed one of life's guarantees, paying taxes, I considered it acceptable.

I am perfectly willing to not have to make the second part of that life guarantee any time soon.

Our property taxes are split into two payments as well, but I am glad that we don't have the snow on the ground that you have in your area, haha.

Brian England  In as much as this snow is almost a week old and starting to look its age we're getting another drop this weekend to make it look fresh.

Nina Hollander, Broker  As I used the blower to do the front walk it was like a wall of snow for the depth. With the temp drop it will be around for a long time..

Hi Ed,
Our property taxes are split into two payments, the first by the last day of April and the second by the last day of October.

I'm glad you zoomed in on the school flag. I could barely see it. It's flying high and proud.

Carol Williams  most of our state is on that same schedule. Some towns offer a discount if the taxes are paid in one installment, but ours doesn't.

As I walked out of the town building it was blowing hard and very difficult to miss.

Good morning Ed. It looks like it was waiting for yin to take the photo and had the wind cooperating. We may or may not get snow today but my son who lives close to the lake in downtown Chicago could get clobbered. Enjoy your day.

Good Friday morning, Ed. We have a sunny but cold morning in Maryland. It has warmed up to 7 degrees as I write this comment. Our public schools have been closed all week due to the heavy snow and icy conditions.

Ed, It almost seems like the flag was waiting for its photo ad the wind perfectly cooperating. And for us, they’re saying more snow will be on the way this weekend.

A thoughtful observation, Ed. It’s interesting how something as simple as a flag can pause your day and reset your perspective, especially in the middle of a routine task like paying taxes. Moments like that are small, but they matter. They remind us to slow down and notice what’s around us, even in the most ordinary parts of life.
