Ask An Ambassador: Routine Business

By
Real Estate Agent with Transaction Alliance 513.520.5305 www.WarrenCountyOhioRealEstate.com SAL.2002007747

It's 11:34 p.m. Monday evening as I pop open the blogging editor for ActiveRain.  It's probably a bit later than I should be getting started, but blogging is part of my weekly routine and this is a MUST on my weekly to do list.  It's been months since I last wrote an Ask An Ambassador post on a Tuesday, instead preferring to draft a post on Monday evening and use the Scheduler feature to have it publish around 8 a.m. EST. Tuesday.

While my schedule may not be quite as filled with routines as it was when I had to put in my 40+ hour engineering work week, there's still plenty of routine to my day.  I'm still putting in 20 hours a week of engineering work, taking care of real estate clients and potential clients, spending a lot of time taking care of our "zoo" (9 Chihuahuas and 13 cats is our current count), and whatever else pops up (e.g. snow storms and snow blowers).

A lot of how my life is lived now has been set up by routines established years ago.  Some from my upbringing, some from my Navy time, some from my engineering work, some from real estate.  Each aspect brings some influence in how I manage my time and my priorities until things are just automatic, or at least easily adjusted on the fly because the experience is already there.

The benefit of making blogging a part of my daily routine for years and years is when I'm down to just one post a week, I can select an idea, acquire a picture, decide on a title, and sit and type and within 30 minutes have a post I'm willing to share.  Sometimes the process flows more easily...tonight I've hacked out several paragraphs, maybe midnight after a full day IS too late to be blogging :)

But bottom line, being willing to make blogging and IDX page creation part of my routine for years now regularly pays off dividends.  Relationships have been established in this community.  There's a web presence to serve our niches.  A bigger digital footprint that non-Rainer agents can use to find us when they're searching for referral agent partners.

We all get to decide what is part of our routine.  How we participate in ActiveRain.  To blog or not.   To comment or not.  To enter a multipart monthly challenge or not.  Your choice for your routines.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador for help,
Bill & Liz aka BLiz

Bill, you have always made a big difference to others, especially members on ActiveRain. Thank you for your dedication, determination, education, and inspiration to stay consistent. I wasn't born with an engineering brain, and you help me in ways to think, that you don't even know.

Thank you!

Good morning Bill. Your choice for your routines nails it. As Stephen Covey once said: " the difference between animals and man is man has the power to choose". Choose wisely. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin , there was a time where Stephen Covey training was the flavor of the day at my corporation.  Working 3rd shift and going over to the local community college to watch the video tapes, and it basically distills down to "we ALWAYS have choices!"  (although we may REALLY not like those choices)

Hi Bill,
Routines have always helped me be productive. I believe the old adage "If you want something done, ask a busy person". They know how to use their time efficiently.

Carol, And I've been one of those busy people for a long time.  I'm always looking for ways to be just a bit more productive, whether it's blogging, or how I put together dinner each night for the furries (just how many bowls can I carry at one time?, and wouldn't life be easier if we just gave them all dry kibble??)

If you choose to wrestle the time management animal, you MUST fight it with routine. Once the routine is down I seem to get so much more accomplished.

And sometimes it takes a while to figure out the best routines, and after that, just a little refinement as we see more opportunities.

Most days I find the words flow fairly easily once I settle on a topic.  That said, some don't develop the way I want (tone issues?) and I'll kick them to Draft and move to another topic.

This is a great reminder that consistency beats intensity over the long haul. Routines built over years make showing up easier, even when schedules change or energy is low. Treating blogging and digital presence as non-negotiable habits is exactly why the dividends keep coming: relationships, visibility, and referrals. Well said.

Yes, we get to decide what is part of our routines, and that results in focusing on what matters. or it should anyway!

And realizing what did work for me forced a shift in how I blogged and the topics I chose.  Consumer facing gave me better results than any other choice.

Bill I can identify.  I am a creature of habit, so a daily routine that starts from the time I get out of bed is very much a part of my daily life.

I mix in some fun, I've got a word game for the morning and a quick word game in the evening.  I am more flexible in how I spend my ActiveRain time than I was at the beginning.

Wayne's comment reminded me of the movie "The Last Crusade" where the remaining Knight makes the statement "He chose poorly."  I also enjoyed Wayne's remark quoting Covey.  Very good post and thank you.

Hi Bill- I am a creature of having certain routines. I find that having them gives me more 'free" time.

I certainly have some "autopilot" routines in my life.  Even the pattern I use to mow my lawn is learned behavior about what puts less stress on my knees :)

Before I fully read your post, I saw the mention of 9 Chihuahuas and thought you might be referring to the ones that show up in the Rain every now and then, haha.  You certainly do have a zoo at your house, haha.

And for now, we don't have our bees or those 10 hives would add to the zoo :)

You're one busy hombre!  You make me feel lazy with no pets,  no snow to shovel, and fewer commitments!  My routine is still ongoing thanks to my former sports life, work life, and mom life though.  Routines, I think, allow for greater accomplishments throughout the day.  You make a great argument to get back on the blogging train with that extra time.   Thanks for the morning inspiration.  Have a great day!
