In Real Estate, people often assume the biggest moments are tied to the biggest paychecks, like the record-breaking sale, the insane bidding war, and the showstopping luxury listing. Some people even wrongly assume we are all out there chasing those paychecks, as if that is the whole point of the work. Spoiler alert, it is not. While, yes, this is how we choose to make a living, the truth is that helping people move on is the biggest reward.
The heart of this career has never been in the flashy moments for me, nor the sales awards, but in the quieter stories. The kind of stories that don't necessarily translate into viral Instagram posts, the ones without champagne closings or dramatic before-and-after photos. Those are the moments that show that the size of the transaction doesn't define the impact.
Recently, I had the chance to help a friend who needed a break. They didn't have a big budget, nor perfect circumstances. But they were trying to move forward and needed someone in their corner to help them take that next step.
I got to be that someone.
My compensation was small. The kind of small that others wouldn't have bothered. But the impact was huge. Watching someone, especially a friend, step into a new chapter, knowing you helped open that door, is a feeling that never gets old.
Here's the part that doesn't always make it into the reels or polished posts; not everything we do is "Instagram-pretty" (although that pressure is high). Not every win comes with a photo op. Many of the most meaningful moments in this business happen quietly and without an audience. It's just you and the client who finally gets a little bit of good news and the chance to start over.
This is what makes being a Realtor so meaningful (for me). It's not the contracts, or accolades, or the viral Instagram reel; it's the people, their stories, and their next chapter. Being a part of that - even briefly - is the real privilege and reward.
