The Lost Art of Slamming a Phone Receiver

By
Education & Training with Number Cruncher LLC

Random thought…

Back in the day, when we had regular phones, if someone made you mad on a phone call, you could just slam the receiver down. And I swear it was SO satisfying. Like you could actually end the conversation with some attitude 😂

Now with cell phones, you just… tap a button.

Like. A tiny little tap.

NOTHING is satisfying about that. It feels like you’re politely ending the call, even when you’re not polite inside lol.

And yes, I have thrown my phone before (don’t judge me). But that’s stupid because then I’m just mad, and I broke my smartphone.

So I’m curious… what do people do now when they’re upset and need that “slam the phone down” feeling??

Am I the only one who misses that?? 😂

What do you do know when a phone call makes you mad?

Curse, of course.

To replace slamming, you can say something before you tap the button. Things like "You are no help at all. Goodbye." Or maybe "You're worthless, and you can't have any more of my time." Then they know for sure it wasn't just a dropped call.

Candy Stevens, EA hi Candy... no you're not the only one who misses that satisfaction of slamming the phone down. And let's not forget about ripping the cord out of the wall for extra emphasis! I have managed to control myself, however, and have never broken a cell phone by throwing it. I'll admit I do get some satisfaction from hanging up on the scammer and spammers and blocking them.

Candy Stevens, EA you are right, there was satisfaction in slamming down the phone.  I have not found a way of duplicating that with a cell phone.  🤪

Candy, slamming a phone down was satisfying.   Now, some just send nasty texts late at night.  Guess that must be satisfying.

Hello Candy Stevens, EA you are right, in the past slamming the phone was a common act. But, time has changed and it is not common to slam a cell phone.

Hi Candy. I feel your loss. Just a thought, although you cannot slam the phone down on an annoying caller any longer, you could START BLOWING A WHISTLE. I understand that this is now a common practice in some places.

Hmm, I would say that if someone hangs up on me before I am done speaking, it feels just as bad as if they had slammed down the phone receiver after our call, haha.

That is a quandary. At the very least depending on who it is, try a few harsh words and tap that button with a grimace.

John Pusa, you are right.  If we slam the phone down, WE will pay for it.  This makes us even madder at the person we were on the phone with.
