It's Saturday - Let's Get Social! Maybe Even Spicy!

Journal Entry - February 7, 2026

 

Remember the 2020's when you were locked down, and locked up in your houses because of the big bad Covid? Today is Saturday - Let's get social! You are long overdue for having a lot of fun. Make it a fun day!

 

 

Now is the time to make good and lasting moments. Has a new restaurant opened up in your neighborhood community? When was the last time you gathered together with family and friends? Or danced the night away? Never forget the good old times need a refresh - Get out and make get-togethers fun and enjoyable - you deserve it!

 

 

Are you dealing with bad winter weather? How about cooking up some warm soup, crack the eggs and make a cake, how about a hot bowl of chili? Chase the winter blues away and make it a GREAT day!

How does your garden grow? I know. The ground may not be suitable where you live, but how about starting an indoor herb garden. You deserve to spice up your life. Let's get spicy!

Do you have a pool table at home? Is it sitting there getting dusty? How about the old board games - Are they lonely because you've been spending too much time on the internet? Shake things up a bit. Get nostalgic - It's time for Happy Days!

 

 

Did you forget to call your mother, father, sons, daughters, or grandkids?  What about that person you said, we need to talk again soon? Was that more than year ago? Pick up the darn phone and give them a call - TALK! TALK! TALK!

Hi Patricia,
There will be lots of "social" going on tomorrow with Super Bowl parties everywhere! Today is a BBQ and music by the pool day at the park where I am staying. No lack of opportunities to be social here.

Wayne Martin - Good flashback! Those were the days, my friend when people didn't need cell phones. The more involved we were socializing with friends in neighborhood hangouts before settling down, the more eager we were to cut loose, have fun, and eat what we loved without counting calories or being worried about putting on weight. To be honest, I don't recall one fat kid growing up. The only time I noticed someone put on weight was when a woman was pregnant! Baby Boomers were booming and blooming!!!

Good morning! These are great ideas - I do have some board games that are just collecting dust. Hmmm.... maybe I can have some friends over for a board game night. I'd have to figure out who would be interested; I think interest in board games is waning.

Kat Palmiotti - I know if I lived in Kalispell and you invited me over to play board games and socialize with you and a few friends, I'd say YES! I might even bring over a Charcuterie board or some Hors'd'oeres. My favorite thing to take to other people's gatherings was a dish of tiny tomatoes, scooped out and stuffed with cream cheese, topped with fresh bacon bits from the frying pan - not the store bought. 

Whatever way you plan your weekend will be fun!

I'm glad to hear you appreciated an uplifting reminder of the ways simple joys had a way of making us happy and satisfied. So many people bought houses with game rooms, and those vacated rooms would be nice to revitalize once more. It's time to strategize over board games like Monopoly and bring out the finger food to nibble on too! Patricia one of my brothers and two sisters live in RI.  Family is important to me and my wife, so we try to make a trip to RI every month to spend time with them.  We did this even during COVID.  It is something we look forward to.

In rural Maine COVID was easy because all this outdoors, not hard to space six feet apart Patricia Feager. Winter recreation provides exercise and outdoor all natural beauty. You just have to layer and be careful not to dress too warm if snowshoeing, skiing, working out. No cabin fever blues when you hop on a snowmobile or ice fish, play pond hockey with the kids.

I went cross-country skiing butting up in the Forest Preserves behind my acreage of land, my kids and I went ice skating down by the pond, we had two double sled snowmobiles, and my son played ice hockey. It was the best of years! Maine is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and offers a healthy way of living.
