February Challenge…A Steady Light
Many members shine quietly. While I’ve never met Liz and Bill Spear I feel as if I’ve known him for many years. BLiz, as he and his wife, Liz, were called, does not post nearly as much as he used to. In fact, these days, the only day we get to see him is Tuesdays when he writes his Ask An Ambassador post.

And yet, Bill continues to be an ACTIVE part of ActiveRain.
His first posts were very typical of our own…mixing in local events, such as my favorites, the rubber ducky challenges and other local posts, with another favorite…the Miss Manners posts.
Bill has worked a triple career…engineer, real estate agent, and on-call butler to a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and bees.
Why Bill deserves the spotlight is that he gives this community his time with little to no recognition. Have an issue with the platform, Bill often helps until ARMS can step in.
Once (or more than that), when I was unable to access the internet, Bill went into my account (I had granted him access) and grabbed my post from Draft mode and published it.
What I admire about Bill, and something he continues to “suggest” to us, is how he keeps his personal opinions to himself…in public and in Cyberville. It’s not a high horse he’s on—his standard of ethics is just a bar set so high you could casually limbo right under it.
However, I also see it as a very practical side of him. He understands that we don’t know who reads what we write and how it is received.

When he is able, Bill joins us at our weekly Zoom calls. Last year, as part of our salute to the military calls, Bill spoke to us about his time in the Navy. (He’s an Annapolis grad!)
Thank you, Bill, for quietly leading the way through your actions and words.
This is my second entry in February 2026 - AR Member Appreciation Month hosted by Lew Corcoran and Patricia Feager
