Tech Tip of the Week

So Many Shortcuts… So Little Time

There are hundreds - maybe even thousands - of keyboard shortcuts, depending on what programs you’re using.

It can feel overwhelming before you even begin.

Let’s start with just ten.

Ten simple shortcuts that make everyday computer tasks easier. You can always add more later. You don’t have to learn everything at once.

You may already know and use them.

Here are ten simple ones to start with:

Copy - Ctrl + C
Paste - Ctrl + V
Save - Ctrl + S
Print - Ctrl + P
Undo - Ctrl + Z
Select All - Ctrl + A
Find - Ctrl + F
Close Tab - Ctrl + W
Switch Windows - Alt + Tab
Show Desktop - Windows key + D

And one more:

Windows key + gives you emojis

You don’t need to memorize them. Just start using the one you feel comfortable with and add more later if you choose.

So many shortcuts… so little time.

But one shortcut at a time
That’s manageable.

Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 Nice list! I’d add Ctrl + Shift + T — reopens the last closed tab. Total game changer when you close something by accident.

And they are the ones I use frequently. I did not realize there were thousands depending on the computers and various programs.

Hi Margaret,
As George, not a day goes by that I don't use the copy and paste shortcuts.

Others that I regularly use are:
Alt 0174 (®)  for the registered trademark, which should always be used when using the word REALTOR®.

Alt 0176 ( ° ) for the degree symbol

Ctrl Z to undo an action (like if I accidentally delete something)

Carol Williams - and on a Mac, the Option and r key = ® and the Option and 0 key = º.

I knew about most of these and use them often, but there are a couple that I was not as familiar with and will begin to use more often, haha.

I love the shortcuts - they are slightly different on a Mac, but mostly just because on a Mac they are accessed with the Option key not the Control key. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning, Margaret. Nice tips and, yes, learn and perfect one at a time and at some point you'll be doing this without thinking twice.
