Animals Adapt...Do We??

I was visitng family in the NorthEast recently - just in time for horrendous snow and ice fandango.  The backyard is typically filled with wildlife - many species of birds, squirrels, ground hogs, cats, dogs and a few that are hard to determine!!

Several mornings, I sat eating breakfast and enjoying the mandatory two cup cofee addition....when it occured to me that the animals adapt to  changing circumstances far better than we do!!!

There was about 13-15 inches of snow and ice....the top layer of ice is about three inches thick so animals walk on top of it.  Despite these dreadful conditions, the animals just adapted to the conditions. They did not seem to care that it was harder to get around; harder to eat...and COLD.  It was truly fascinating.

Humans during this time, reaxted normally - but they/we did not adapt and complained about the conditions.

Maybe we need to learn a lesson from animals!!

Hmm, I don't think that I would be willing or able to adapt to those conditions very quickly, haha.

Good morning Paddy. Humans, for the most part, learn to adapt but not without a complaint stage since humans abhor change. Enjoy your day.

Hi Paddy,
We can definitely learn a lot from the animal kingdom. I referenced them quite a bit in my book The ABCs of Life: Letters to My Granddaughter

This is such a profound observation, Paddy. We often get so caught up in our own inconveniences that we overlook the effortless resilience of nature right outside our windows. Seeing those animals navigate 15 inches of snow without a second thought is a powerful reminder that while we can't control the 'fandango' of the weather, we can certainly control our mindset toward it. Thanks for sharing this perspective!

Well, I guess if I did not had a job, someone fed me everyday, and I could go to the bathroom almost anywhere, I would adapt well...lol

Hello Paddy - I believe we accept (as well as reject), adapt and adjust on an ongoing basis.  That said, the comment by Brian England reminds me of the movie, The Elephant Man and a famous line from it, "I am not an animal".    Yes, I digress.   Again. . .

Hi Paddy- Humans adapted to poor weather conditions by developing their brains to invent heaters and air conditioners! LOL Animals' method of complaining was to deal with whatever there was and not waste time complaining.

What a fun read, Paddy Deighan MBA JD PhD. It’s wild how animals just roll with whatever nature throws at them while we’re inside grumbling over the cold. Thanks for sharing this little nudge to lighten up and take a cue from the critters out there.

This is a post that made me think.  I believe I adapt.  Sometimes easily.  Sometimes kicking and screaming because I have not choice but to adapt.

Thank you for this blog.
